I know NVIDIA offers mpeg2 acceleration only (or am I wrong?).
What cards offer acceleration of xvid,divx,h264 under Linux? And another question; what does one benefit from compiling mplayer with NVIDIA's xvmc library?
Cheers :)

There is no acceleration for codecs other than mpeg1/mpeg2. Nvidia's XvMC requires you to use the libXvMC.so from Nvidia.

Yeah I know, but what do I gain from it? Is it required to get HW acceleration of mpeg1/2? I.e. regular compiled mplayer won't accelerate videos with the gfx card?

Mplayer will use less CPU and more graphics, plus if you're viewing ATSC 1080i content, you can use the bob deinterlacer with the xvmc drivers, which looks much better.
