Budget PC for my girlfriend....

Hello folks.....
I have almost decided on what parts to buy for my chica's new PC
I did not want it to be a gaming rig or anything that glows in teh dark... I do not plan on overclocking it either.....
She has an old 233 Mhz box that runs slow as hell.
I was going for a budget choice cuz i know she won't use it for hardcore gaming or heavey multitasking.
Here is what I chose :

- AMD Athlon XP 2000+/266 FSB Thoroughbred Processor CPU - OEM 2000+/ 1.67GHz,

- MAXTOR 60GB 7200RPM EIDE HARD DRIVE MODEL # 6Y060L0 - OEM, DRIVE ONLY DiamondMax Plus 9

- PREMIER CP0-PR-TM206B-P4 Black 300W Mid Tower ATX Case

- Lite On 52x24x52 Black CDRW Model LTR-52246 OEM

- BLACK* PANASONIC 1.44 MB DENSITY FLOPPY DISK DRIVE, MODEL # JU-256A-198P - OEM, DRIVE

- BLACK ORtek MCK-800 Multimedia Keyboard. PS2. Built-in 16 Multimedia hot keys (6 Programmable keys).

- Logitech BLACK SBD69 Corded Optical Wheel Mouse PS/2 - OEM

- Labtec Pulse-420 3 Piece Speaker - RETAIL

All of that came out to $ 463.99. I will buy it all on newegg.com because I have always done so. If you have any suggestions I will surely appreciate them. i am planning on ordering all of teh above soon. My budget is $500.

i dont like ur PSU choice, a quality PSU can mean the difference a working PC and a fried PC. I also think 300w is a little skimpy by today's standards. Get yourself an Enermax or Antec PSU of at least 350w ;)

also, what video card did you choose just out of curiosity?

As far as going all black, it may look good, but I've seen some black drives cost a tiny bit more than white and I know you said you were trying to go budget.

Everything else looks good though. But as you are buying an OEM CPU don't forget to get her an HSF as well.

Well the psu is 300 watts and I have never had problems with generic ones. She will not need a good GPU as she does not play games. The GF4MX that is embedded in the nforce2 chipset is sufficient.

As to teh OEM cpu...... my bad I will but the box version with the stock cooler. She will not overclock so stock stuff is allrite.

BLACK color - it is teh color of choice since her old PC was all black and the monitor she has is black as well.....

As far as I can tell, Athlons don't like sh1tty power supplies. Suckage, but I'd rather shell out some more and get a 350 at least (even if it's not a gaming box).

So it happens that i just spoke with a guy running xp 1900+ wtih 7 fans and 2 hdd, cdr, dvd, gf4 4400 - so I think I am in good shape with that 300 psu....

god.. my gf has a mac:( it got fuxored up and i didnt know how to remove the programs that load at startup..lol

256MB of 2700 DDR ram is enough.
I ran XP on a 450 mhz ADM k6-III with 384 MB of pc100 Ram and it was running ok without heavy multitasking. My gf usually runs some Office applications, checks her mail and browses the net so aint no heavy RAM usage there. Anyway I can always upgrade :)
