Need advice on speakers for my floating wood floor

Hey guys,

I have a budget of cca. $1500 to spend on the Pioneer VSX 817 receiver and a set of 5.1 speakers to go with it into this room (20m2):

Problem is, we have switched from carpet to floating wooden floor as you can see in the pic. Currently I'm using the Logitech Z-5400 5.1 speakers and although these sounded fairly well on the carpet (I know some audiofils are ROTFLMAOing right now), now it's just an awful reverbated mess.

Can anyone advise me a good ~$1000 5.1 speaker setup that will sound good in this kind of room? Doesn't have to be a set, can be separate speaker models/manufacturers.

I'm quite a noob at this, don't even know whether to go for speaker stands or wall mounts or tower speakers... no idea which would sound better in this accoustics environment.

Usage is 60%music/40% DVD movies.

I've actually never heard the speakers before, but I've heard they are great. I do have one of their subs before, on the same type of floor you have, and it sounds fantastic.

You might be best off with something like Bose or Polk which tend to have rolled off highs compared to the competition. Since an accurate speaker would sound harsh in your room, this might not be a bad idea.

Another option is getting a receiver like the Onkyo 705 which has Audyssey MultiEQXT room correction for all channels - this also can compensate for your room issues.

Or even some decent rubber feet. I bought some for my 360 to raise it a bit more when vertical and let more air flow though. They also reduced vibration noise altogether. You can get them in some pretty big sizes too.

Take a look at Paradigm speakers. They have some great budget audiophile speakers. If you shop smart you can get a system for $1000. Take a look at the Atom as main speakers & they make a center channel, rears & a sub to match.

Floor standing speakers almost always sound better in any environment. But a better question is, what sounds better, a pair of $400 floor standing speakers or a $400 pair of book shelf speakers? Well, usually the bookshelf speakers will sound better. They are smaller and use less materials so now them $$ are put into better quality parts. Big cheap speakers sound boomy & unbalanced, where small, quality speakers have less bass and don't play as loud, but they have a much more balanced & over all quality is better.
