As you all may know Crysis disables the Anisotropic Filtering once you enable the Parallax Occulsion Mapping (i.e. @ Very high) .. its seems to be an engine-limitation.

the question is : Will the next gen GPUs be able to do anything with that ? i'm surprised how no one commented on these latest Crysis benchmarks for both GTX280 & 4780 which show both VeryHigh settings enabled with 16xAF ? how come

I'm waiting on news on this also. AF is more important that AA to me, I hate blurry textures more than jaggies.

Not to mention, EdgeAA > AA anyway :p

Nah, its not an engine problem. Its a feature that crytek uses to improve performance. I already mailed crytek about this and they said they use a certain type of lockup for the textures that doesn't work with AF when POM is enabled. May be fixed in a patch or in future crysis game.

if you can't tolerate no AF, you should go play PGR3. Lack of AF in that game will make you smash your TV with something hard.

Indeed. the lack of AF can turn an awesome game to a sh!ty-looking one in a matter of seconds.
i watch how my friends play their PS3/X360 games with no AF & ugh! it's painful! :headexplode:

too bad Crysis is suffering the same issue now :(

Best part about it, most console games don't even notice the lack of AA or AF...

Ignorance is bliss? when you never had it you will not notice that is gone.

So what does Parallax Occulsion Mapping do?

So what does Parallax Occulsion Mapping do?
Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallax_mapping) is your friend

it is an enhancement of the bump mapping or normal mapping techniques applied to textures in 3D rendering applications such as video games. To the end user, this means that textures such as stone walls, will have more apparent depth and thus greater realism with less of an influence on the performance of the simulation.

I tend to use 2x FSAA and 16x AF but not in Crysis as it's too demanding, can play at very high settings but only playable at 1024x768 :(

With the rig in your signature? Something is wrong then.

Nothing's wrong on what he stated. with a 8800GTX/U , Crysis at VH is only playable at a res of 1024x768. it could go up to 1280x1024 if you have a GTX280.

No, AF isn't working for me. But AA is with this new driver. I need to find a way to increase the max memory for Crysis though, I'm hitting the 2Gb limit at 16xQ and it's causing it to close. Any ideas?

You are using 16xQAA for Crysis .. & at VERY HIGH settings ?!! :wtf:

Kind of, yeah. It's 64bit DX9 with most of the settings transfered in the config files. I didn't believe it was working so well, so I took some screenshots (I can post em if you want). It's working fo' sho'. At 16x the FPS only dropped slightly from 65-58FPS at this particular point, but the RAM usage was about 1.8Gb. When I put it on either of the 'Q' settings it went up to 2Gb, threw an error at me and closed.

I wanna get it working on the quality setting just to see if there's a noticeable change, but I can't find any info on allowing more RAM usage. Don't wanna upgrade to 6Gb RAM if I can avoid it :D.

BTW where is the POM setting?

He has to pay for his meals, somehow. His bruised ego also needed it.
