& what are you gonna do if these (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1686141&postcount=3) numbers came out to be true ? :p

If those numbers are true then I might just go AMD this round. If a single 4870 is beating a GX2 in Crysis then it's certainly going to beat the 280. And a CF setup would be well worth $600 IMO. I'd need a new board but I just might do it for that.

The only thing that gives me pause on that idea is CUDA. I want CUDA apps. Those are a pretty big pull for me this gen. I'm on the fence because the performance of a single 280 is really more than enough for my needs at the resolutions I intend to play at plus I'd be getting incredible performance in CUDA apps. But, with AMD I might be getting the faster card for less, but no CUDA apps. What to do...?

CUDA is great, but i just don't see myself paying $650 for GTX 280. GTX 280 should sell for 450-500.

I hope the 4870 prompts a nice price drop. Go AMD!

This is about the 10th time I have seen you complaining about the price. Get a job or STFU.

Its expensive there is no denying that. I don't really think the market is that big for $650 cards anymore.

I know im not biting. I will wait this out patiently and see what ATI brings to the table but in the end I will probably end up with a GTX 260.

For me, at least, the GTX 280 is just...no. The 260 as it is now is at my current extreme upper budget range, but with a completely stock rig it may not be the best fit either. So I continue to wait for the 4870 information blackout to lift...

Actually i think the best would be x48 motherboard with two HD 4870X2. Extremely fast system for much less money then 790SLI + SLI GTX280.

GTX280 is great card, but $650 is just too much. For SLI $1300, holy crap....

I think Nvidia lost perception for the market. I think 9800GTX+ is an answer for many of us including myself :)

That is probably the rout that I will take unless I can get a GTX 260 for around $350.00.

Its just not worth it to me any more to have the absolute best when the price is so high.

Thats true, some of the benches look good for it.

I just pulled the trigger though on the $199.99 EVGA GTX. My plan will be to use their step up program in a couple of months when the prices on the GTX 260 and 280 come down.

Its a win win for me the way I see it.

You should man, just think.......in 2-3 months drivers for the GTX 260 and 280 will be much better and any other issues such as the current temp issue should be fixed. If we are luck we might even be able to step up to the 55nm GTX 280 or 260!

Thank goodness I resisted the temptation.

These 9800GTX's overclock a good bit better than the 8800GT's right? I know it will probably not be much of an upgrade over what I have right now but thats not really my reasoning for getting this new card either.

I figure I would do best to get out of my 8800GT right now before the prices drop to much, I only paid $150.00 for it and knowing Ebay I will get every bit of that right back. LOL.
