Also, this thing BARELY fit into my case, I had to force the hard drive cage back to get it in.
Quick Q : What are the recommended drivers for the 280 currently ?? (WHQL ones unless there is a better beta)
Anyone else have the plastic covering on the back of the card start to come off?

Happy downclocking... :headexplode:
Installed BFGGTX 280 last night. Then installed Crysis again after shelving it until I had hardware to run it. All I can say is "wow". Awesome frames. Looks great. I'm getting a little flashing artifacting though. In the old days I would think it's a heat issue but I ran Mass Effect and no such artifacting so I'm thinking it may be a Crysis thing. Anyone else have this experience with this game?

try the 177.70, really excellent driver on 8800GTX, should run great on GTX 280.
So far only found one problem, can't enable AERO in Server 2008, but works in Vista

I dont think its normal .. you should start checking your temps while playing Crysis. If your card is factory OCed then maybe you should revert back to stock clocks & see what happens.

Its supposed to be removed before installing the card AFAIK unless i'm confused with something else.
Oh, didn't read the instructions, thought I had no reason...also I couldn't see the film until it started to come off anyway.

Just got my BFG GTX 280 OCX edition(665 core 2400mem, 1456 shaders), installed it, ran Vantage. Its awesome, 5400 on extreme, my old 8800 scored 2000. Ran Furmark for a good 5 min to check temps, topped out at 82c so looks like I'm good as far as the overheating problem. :D
Sounds fine normally, but with Furmark running it sounds like a blow-drier.
Just clicked the confirm order button on a PALiT GTX280 ( $399 US with MIR ) and a new full tower case @ Newegg.
I just couldn't pass up the $399 deal. Plus I simply love nHancer so couldn't go back to ATI even though the 4870 is a awesome card.
I'll post a follow up post once I have everything install :)......Looking forward to changing hardware :).
Thanks ATI for the low nVidia prices!
PS - Hoping there isn't a temp. problem with my GTX 280......but I am worried about it, and will be the first thing I test,
A good stress test would be the Furmark for OpenGL & Crysis for DX10.

What about the ATI X2? :o It's just a few weeks away...
Anyway, enjoy your new card!

You shouldnt be asking this question :nono: because there is always something good around the corner in the PC world ..

Well, I got impatient. ;)
Also, I figured the following:
The GTX 280 is hot and loud and I needed a new PSU for it, but the 4870x2 will be hotter, probably just as loud if not louder, and will need a new PSU as well.
The GTX 280 is fast enough for anything I have now or anything I can see in the near future, and I got a BFG card so if NV comes out with a new GTX 280b or whatever, within 100 days I can trade up.
The GTX 280 was only $450 for 1 Gigabyte, the 4870x2 with 1 gig per card is going to be at least $550.
All told, I saved $100 and get to play with it 3 weeks earlier, and I have upgrade options. Plus, if the 4870x2 is awesome enough that I can't stand it, I have someone who will buy my card for 90% of the original price. :D
