Hey everyone, I'm having a problem with a new system that I just built, it's an athlonxp 2400+, Sapphire Radeon 9500 Pro, soyo dragon kt333 motherboard, 512mb kingston pc2700. Everything is working fine, except direct3d games don't work, they lock up the system as soon as I run them.

I first noticed the problem when I tried to run hitman 2 and it would immediately freeze up. Then I installed return to castle wolfenstein and the doom 3 alpha and they both run great, so I just figured it was just something to do with that specific game, hitman 2. Today however, I installed vietcong and it did the exact same thing as hitman 2 so I tried running the directx diagnostics test and it also froze. This lead me to believe that directx wasn't working properly so I tried reinstalling directx and that didn't work.

I have catalyst 3.2 installed and all of the other drivers are up to date. Does anyone have any idea why direct3d isn't working but OpenGL is? Thanks

What DirectX version do you have?
Is your videocard sharing IRQ with some other device?
What OS are you using?

Hm, did you try uninstalling your video drivers, then rebooting and reinstalling them? Maybe they got corrupted with the dx part and just need a good reinstall.
