Actually, now that I think about it, I don't really want something more powerful. I'm so satisfied with my 8800 GTX that I have no desire to upgrade it. I feel like my system is still plenty powerful to handle anything that I throw at it.

Yeah I saw 'em pop on Newegg and couldn't resist. I got a regular XFX and it has the "standard return policy" so if I don't like it for whatever the reason I can send it back within 30days.
My 8800GTX I've had since 11|2006 is finally being put to rest :p
Stepping up my two EVGA 9800GX2's to EVGA GTX280 FTW's
Purchased 1 other GTX280, 2x Tek4 Slim LN2 Pots, and spare Foxconn BlackOps, QX9650, and OCZ Flex 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR3 1600, 32GB MTRON PRO SSD being sent to the person I sponsor.
:o
Nvidia have way too many cards competing with each other thats the problem for them. If the GX2 didn't exist, this card would have been great. The card should also be £100 cheaper imo.

Single 280. Good thing I sold my GX2 a few weeks ago to get a good price on it ;)
With SLI on Intel support I'd go at least SLI with two cards. nV is loosing money :p
well scan.co.uk have them at preorder now in the UK for £457 thats $900 LOL

Well I am going to wait till ATI show us what they got with their 48XX cards at the end of the month.
Between GTX260 and GX2...depending on price and more feedback (its going to be awhile before AUS sees it..at least from my usual store). GTX280 seems nice..but farrrk...price is just a bit insane even for my standards -.-
nforce mobo and another 8800GT... SLi :D

Don't do that man. P35 to nForce is a huge downgrade.

my G80 is fine, will wait and see what ATi has to offer, and then maybe buy 9800GX2.

My 8800GTX can run most every game I have at 2560x1600 with full effects. Only with Crysis do I have to scale back some (and only some) of the effects to make it playable. And since I haven't touched Crysis in a couple of months...
I think I'll be waiting for the fall/winter refresh, and grab a new card along with one of the new Nehelam CPUs.

Uh... isn't a 9800GX2 > GTX 280 in almost every game?

MIN frames, no SLI issues and multi-monitor support make the difference for me. IMO the GTX is the better card.

This is on early unoptimized drivers, just imagine what will happen after the drivers get better for the GTX 280.

Nvidias fault really for having too many cards competing with each other. Drivers should be optimized before the card comes out.
I don't think it is unreasonble to ask a premium price when you have a 1.4 billion transistor count chip based on 65nm die. You are not going to get any where near as many cores on a 300mm wafer as you did when you were making your 800 billion transistor 8800's on the same 65nm die.
I am having a hard time deciding what to do. The geek in me says use the step-up. It's only $38. But the benchmarks just are not making me want to pull the trigger.

For only $38 I would do it. Dont base these early benchmarks on the potential of the GTX 280 as it will get much better after a couple of driver revisions.
$38 will get you a card with more usable ram, a wider bus and you will lose the need for SLI profiles.

If you're stepping up, the question is; will there be a better alternative before your step-up runs out? Unless you waste your step-up and go for the X2 if it's worth it. If not you might as well go for the GTX :)
