Well I had my step-up EVGA GTX 280 for 2 days. Now its artifacting like crazy. Time to RMA it. I might be going ATi (4870) now :)

Seriously, there's no point to not get a better card as I care not for brand loyalty. Then again if the 4870x2 has the same stutter crap as the 9800gx2 then i'll stick wit the gtx280.

Well I got two GTX 280's with a third on the way. So yeah, I know and so does the dog that the 4800's are half the price and close to the performance some times. Some times they take a bit of a thumping like Crysis and sometimes they can thump the 280 like Bioshock. No matter what, nothings faster or likely to be much faster overall except perhaps 4870x2 CF. At any rate, nothing slow, not even Crysis very high at 1920x1200. I'll get getting a 30" in the next month or so I guess.

I only upgrade when I can get 2x performance for ~$200. the last time that happened was when I upgraded my 8600 for a 9600. guess I'll be skipping this generation. maybe there will be something for me in 2009...

My GTX 260 should be arriving today.

Question is i ordered a Q9450 for my other computer...it should arrive tommorow.

Should i install the 260 now or wait and swap out the Q6600&8800 with the Q9450&GTX260 Tommorow?

I'm putting the Q6600 in my dad's machine,and giving the E6600 to my mom.

Just looked at the tracking for the 260.....It's waiting at my door.....but i'm Stuck at Work!!!:fu: The Clock seems to be going at a Snail's pace.. at least when i get home i can:drooling: over it until my Quad shows up:o

Well i could not wait so i put it in last night...but i have a problem,

When i go into windows it sees the card and wants to search for drivers...so i cancel that and download the latest from Nvidia,i go and install them then i reboot.
when i get back into windows it sees the card again and wants to search for drivers:(

I have try the drivers from the disc,the drivers from Nvidia,the first set of drivers from before.

Still nothing....also there is a weird connection on the second plug for the card,right below the pins there is some plastic thing going across the opening so that the plug sits funny:(

i don't think it's hardware related because it would not even see the card if it was a dud..


Any Ideas&Suggestions would be great.

Also when i use the auto search for drivers with the disc in...it finds the card and says "hardware could not be installed The parameter is incorrect"???

Are there two different versions of the disc ? maybe one for the 260 and one for the 280 because when the discs in it says EVGA 280

I've used driver cleaner pro&XDC Driver cleaner. but for some reason the drivers don't stick:(

Also my monitor goes to 1680X1050 as if the drivers are there but it says in properties "Default monitor on" and it's blank also i tryed monitor drivers first ...nothing.

Did you make sure you are installing the correct driver for your OS (i.e. Xp or Vista , 32 or 64-bit) ??

also latest mobo BIOS ? ... enough PSU power (just in case) ? reinstall the card again ?

Yeah i did not have time to try all those things.

1.I'm using the Latest official BIOS 1215 i believe.
2.I'm using windows XP still so i'm pretty sure it's the right driver for XP
3.I'm using the two 6 pin PCI-E connectors from my Ocz 700W PSU[that's why i got the 260 because i would not have to get a new PSU]
4.I thought it might be a incompatibility with something in windows[so maybe a reinstall of windows?]
5.I am going to Reseat the card,and maybe Take out the sound card while i try again..it could be the sound card causeing the problem[what about if i tryed one PCI-E 6 pin connector and 2 4 pin molex to one 6 pin adaptor?]

Will the OS even let you install the wrong driver? I've never tried.

here's another question to people who have upgraded from 8800GTX to 260 or 280.

When you changed out the card,did you uninstall the drivers before or after you put in the new card? or did you install the new card&new drivers over the old Drivers?

I always uninstall drivers, swap card, then install new drivers. Never had a problem.

Update... now it won't even boot into windows.:thumbdwn:

So i'm gonna flash the new bios[Got my Q9450 installed] and reinstall windows fresh:)

Its ALIVE!!! Updated the Bios,got the new Q9450 Installed...Installed Windows....installed 177.41 Drivers and everything Works Flawless!! Thanks for the Help Guys:)


Now I'm Off To Play Something... any ideas what i should install first?
