I've been hearing from october to Q1 2003!!Any ideas on when Clawhammer is comming?

Q1 2003. very, very limited shipments were planned to be out in december, but the word is that is simply not happening.
it won't be october, as we haven't even seen Barton rear its head yet, and the Athlon 2800+(tbred based) is due around October.
Opteron is still coming this year i believe.
edit: someone in one of the forums was saying Opteron was this year, i'm just repeating what they said.
But wasn't Athlon 64(clawhammer) due Q4 2002 an opteron(sledgehammer)Q1 2003?

you are right Fotis.
I expect Clawhammer Desktop Athlons around december. Of course OEMs will be the first.
Huge quantities around Q1 2003.
Besides that AMD will replace the Tbred with the Barton, which will be the mid range and low cost sollution.
It will be very interesting to see what Intel is going to do with their Celerons.

If the 2400+ and 2600+ hadn't appeared, I'd say Christmas for Barton and Feb/Mar for Hammer. Nix that - Barton may still appear Christmas, but Hammer will prolly be Q2 2003, unless Intel trumps AMD with their new 2.8GHz processors :(

Clawhammer is still roadmap-end of year. Opteron is still first half of 2003.
sheesh

ACK. I was speaking from knowledge acquired a while ago. How much does AMD plan to charge for Clawhammer, and will VIA have a chipset for it?
Another question: will the PCI slots be 64-bit like the MP chipsets have? Or will the first versions of Hammer chipsets still support 32-bit slots?

yes, it was, a few months ago :D
the roadmap may not have changed, but you can bet with the new headroom found in tbred, and then the introduction of Barton, that Clawhammer ain't gonna be here in December. AMD's original schedule called for Barton to replace tbred in the second half of this year. um, well, it IS the second half and still no Barton. tbred was delayed, Barton is delayed, and Clawhammer is delayed(last i heard).
the original target was to have around 10,000 or some small number out in December, either way, you probably wouldn't be able to get one. i still have high doubts that it will be out this year, considering it was supposed to debut at 3400+. AMD has to get there first. they aren't going to leave a 800"MHz" gap in their product line

Ideally there would be a couple of 64 bit slots for high-demand applications like video and storage cards.
The rest would be 32bit for older, less demanding devices.
Via WILL have a chipset, but it will most likely suck. (Look at current socketA chipset line. Bugs and shoddyness have been seen through every generation of the KT series... PCI probs? Yup... 4-in-one problems? Yessiree. And much more!)
I'd stay away from Via until they get their act together.
Watch for Nvidia, AMD, and even Sis.
Nvidia has proven to be a capable chipset makes. While NFORCE has some bugs, it's a fantastic effort for a first-ever product. They have a bright future ahead.
AMD has always been good with their core logic. Always stable, and fast. I just hope they don't follow the AMD750 example and STOP udating after a while. That chipset fell behind the kt266a because nothing was done to improve it.
Sis is a relative newcomer in the hardcore chipset arena. They have apromising future.
Look for these and stay the hell away from Via.

I agree, AMD 8000 or nForce 2 for my Athlon 64 chipset. You can have Via

AMD will be supporting Hammer with motherboards for the life of the product
Barton has not been shown in any OFFICIAL roadmaps, to my knowledge.
Hammer will not be delayed because of Athlon improvements (now THAT would be downright stupid, especially since they haven't changed the roadmap yet)
I believe Clawhammer is in initial production right now.
Which means q4 would be very easy indeed.
As for VIA, I agree that anyone looking for something that is always working should stay the hell away.
By the way, investors go by official roadmaps, so if they're going to change, they have to have some decent time between the change and the new date.

Barton is indeed listed on the AMD roadmaps. it SHOULD be official, considering that it is the roadmap on AMD's own website.
the roadmaps were never updated to correspond to the tbred delays either though, why should they start now? yes, tbred made it out in the first half of this year...barely.
additionally, as i said, judging by the roadmaps Barton should be out now or very soon, yet it isn't AFAIK. earliest it will be out is October, and so far i've heard that the Athlon 2800+ is still thoroughbred based. just because Clawhammer is on the roadmap for Q4 doesn't mean it's gonna happen, although i would hope it did.

Aha. I didn't know it was on the roadmap...guess I haven't actually looked lately <grin>
However, I don't believe AMD ever actually confirmed the rumors of the enhancements directly.
However, AMD has often said to fansites that Clawhammer would be out earlier q4 rather than later. Whether thats true, I have no idea.
I currently couldn't care less about Athlons. Hammers all the way man.

I'm pretty sure we'll see the Hammer at the end of ther year. It probably will be in very small quantities, but it will be out. The chip is already sampling and a few hardware sites have even benchmarked beta silicon. I can't wait for the Athlon 64 / NV30 machine.

Just got me thinking...
Since AMD has basically said they're gonna stick with the athlon brand for the clawhammer version, any ideas what they're gonna call it? Like Athlon 64 or ...?

XP = eXtended Processor
HP = Hammer Processor
Just a guess ;)
