for now i'm sitting it out and waiting to see how ATI does. I hope GTX 280 price will be lowered in next week or two.

8800GTX MSRP was $599 at launch so GTX 280 is $50 more.

How much better will it get? I mean seriously? 2 FPS average?
Well lets see.............look back at when the 8800GTX was launched, I had one from launch and specifically remember how much better the card got after some driver revisions and it was most certainly more than 2fps average.
I can understand some of you guys being irritated about the price but honestly some of the things that you and neckro are saying makes it seem as though you guys have never owned a high end video card from its launch date before and are completely unaware of what a difference optimized drivers can make so comparing a card with optimized drivers to a brand new GPU with unoptimized drivers is pretty unfair to be honest with you, after a couple of months if things have not improved much then you might have a legit argument but until then no one knows what the GTX 280 is truly capable of.
You can say what you like about it but when it comes to high res with high amounts of AA and AF this is the card to have.

No, I've never owned one from launch. You can get them for $50 cheaper two weeks after launch.
So how much did drivers help the GTX over the period of launch until now? 5%?

Release prices for the 9800GX2 and the GTX 280 are both quite a bit lower than the 8800GTX.
I'd pay less for 3 GTX 280s right now than what I paid for my 2 8800GTX back in the day.
Exactly and I do not hear anyone that owns a 8800GTX complaining about how much it cost on launch day because the fact is you have gotten your moneys worth out of that card.
The same thing will happen with the GTX 280 when more games come out that need the extra bandwidth and memory.

I do not remember any 8800GTX's going for $599.99 at launch as most etailers had them priced at $650.00+.

I seriously doubt you even own an 8800GTX with a statement like that. Geeze. lol.

The price of the GTX280 cards in Europe is around 500-550E for the standard models. The factory overclocked versions cost around 550-600E.
Do you think that these prices are going to be lower once ATi launches their new cards ?
ATM the GTX280 is about the same price as the 8800GTX was at launch in the UK (£430-440), but the 8800GTX held it's price for quite a while if I remember correctly. Where as the GTX280 will drop very soon it would seem. I don't think it's an unfair asking price, it's just we've been spoiled with very cheap cards for the last year, so it seems alot. It is almost double the power of the 8800GTX, I just don't like how it's been achieved.
It's still more than i'm willing to pay though :p. < £350 would be nice.
