GTX 280, 9800GTX prices to drop

Nvidia has already dropped the prices of GTX 280 and GTX 260 and it doesn’t plans to let ATI rest. ATI started this nasty game with RV670, Radeon 3870 and 3850 cards and Nvidia now wants to put a lot of pressure on soon to be launched Radeon HD 4870.

Radeon 4870 was supposed to launch at $329 but it will probably drop to $299 very fast and at the same time GTX 260 is going to drop to way under $399. (Revs approves of this price drop)

This is not the last of it as we believe that this card will rapidly drop to at least $349 very soon (and this one). With such pricing Nvidia will put a lot of pressure on Radeon HD 4870.

This is not all as 9800GTX will drop to way under $299 to put some pressure on the Radeon HD 4850 and we believe that Geforce 9800 GTX should very soon start selling for $249 and later drop even more.

I agree nekro I would love to have one, but until I need a better card than my 8 series nvidia won't get a sell. Hopefully they will drop below 6 bills.

I don't upgrade cause I can and am still running my x2 6400 because it is still a very fast processor. I think I will spend my money on a nice media server.

would be hilarious if 4780 would wipe the floor with GTX 280. buying gtx 280 now seems rather pointless not knowing what the other card will be like.

GTX 280 should cost no more then $450

I have yet to see a single GTX 280 price drop and I can also get a 9800GTX for right at $250 right now so whatever Nvidia.

For me it doesn't need to wipe the floor with it. If performance is close to GTX 260, the chance to put two x2 cards on an Intel mobo is more than enough to kiss nVidia bye bye

you can buy brand new for about 440-450 now, and since it beats GTX 280 in more then half the test, its much better deal

Stop posting that bull**** already, GX2 maybe got better max fps, but not min.fps, where it loose most of time.

Best video card price/performance purchase since my Voodoo3/3000 agp back in the day.

Yeah I thought about that as well but I'd have to buy a new mainboard (P45 or X48) for Crossfire or Crossfire X. That's not a great thing to do with the new sockets just around the corner.

The cheapest GTX 280 I seen is £399 then it will cut down to £350 or £300. :D

Why? at least I am smart enough to realize the benefits and advantages that the GTX 280 has over the GX2 not to mention the fact that the card will get much better with newer drivers.

GTX 280 is overpriced, truth hurts

it is a good card, but nvidia just wants to find out how much they can get away with. I really hope ATi cards are good and might put a stop to this price hike. If it continues next cards will sell for 700-800.

How much better will it get? I mean seriously? 2 FPS average?

The best thing right now would be for ATI to come out with the 4800 series being very competitive. If they do...then Nvidia will lower their prices. If ATI stumbles...we are stuck with overpriced parts. I thknk the G260 is going to be a very good part, but as the 8800 GTS was...it is a more high mid range card with excellent bang for the buck...however, I believe that the real price point for the 260 should be $300 to $350...not $400.

Release prices for the 9800GX2 and the GTX 280 are both quite a bit lower than the 8800GTX.
I'd pay less for 3 GTX 280s right now than what I paid for my 2 8800GTX back in the day.
