I just put my new eVGA Superclocked GeForce GTX 280 in my main computer, and I'm astounded by the improvements in gameplay I'm experiencing over my GeForce 9800 GX2. I play Crysis at 1920X1200 with everything on HIGH. It used to stutter fiercely in certain maps, especially those with a lot of textures. Now it hardly stuuters at all, even in the most texture-intensive areas. This is of course due to the 1GB of onboard memory and the 512-bit memory bus vs. the 256-bit bus in the 9800 GX2. I'm going to try some other games to see how much that extra memory makes a difference. Right now I'm getting anywhere from 35-40 FPS in Crysis. These are sustained framerates!!! My 9800 GX2 used to jump all over the place because of the stuttering. Let's see how other games fare.

Bottom line: If you have the $$$ and your system can handle it, the GTX 280 ROCKS!!! This card is NO FLOP!!!! Yes, it's ULTRA-EXPENSIVE, but you get what you pay for.

I'm in the process of stepping up my 9800GX2 to a 280. After using dual monitors for about 10 years now and not being able to thanks to SLI, combined with all the stuttering the GX2 gives me in games, I think it's worth the $77.

does crossfire also stutter?

well it was probably stuttering because the 9800GX2 only has 512MB useable ram

Yup, I highly agree, for me the biggest difference was WiC, huge difference in smoothness there.

Just look @ the review on this site. The min frames are great on the GTX 280. Mine should be installed late today.

Good to know, thanks for the feedback.

Yes, at least with the current 3000 series. Not sure about the new cards.
