Yup, that's right - ATi just lifted the NDA of the 4850 series of graphic cards, so expect to see some proper reviews shortly! :)

BTW forget all the numbers you have seen leaked, the new driver issued yesterday shows the real performance of this product.

It was, but because the card is already widely available, AMD/ATi decided that there was no point in restricting the general public from knowing how the cards they buy actually perform. :)

How strange. Looking forward to some reviews.

WOW

Awsome performance. Need to see some more detailed benchies though.

6 Days until the 4870 is out. There's no way the X2 isn't gonna be better than the GTX280 in performance, spec and price. I think I might be buying my 1st ATI card soon.

EDIT: And that's with a Phenom CPU.

Hmm, it looks like it only performs 2-3fps better than the GTS in Crysis, 1600x1200, H, 4xAA, 8xAF. With the 9800GTX about to drop to $199 I'd say AMD looses out on this one. Factor in the fact that with any NV GPU g80 and above you get CUDA apps and I'd say the GTX at $199 is the better buy.

I'd say 4850=9800gtx pretty much at this point. The drivers for the 9800gtx have had a much longer time to mature so I wouldn't be totally surprised if the 4850 got a nice performance boost with the next set of drivers. :) And as for CUDA, ATi has firestream.. The 4850 CF results look very nice!

The ATI cards will have CF multi-monitor support as well as on-board audio and several other features. At least it's looking like they're back in the game.

EDIT: The CF performance of this card is way above the 8800GTS and GT in SLI. Look at the extreme preset.

I didn't know about firestream. Are there currently any firestream apps? If not, when are they suppose to start releasing? I'd like to know how a firestream encoding app performs against a CUDA encoding app. Interesting stuff.

Edit: I didn't know they had onboard audio.

I'm not 100% sure they all have the on-board audio. But of course there's DX10.1 too. Time will tell if that's of any benefit. 24xAA too :captnkill:

Well firestream is pretty much the same as CUDA, but with some differences making apps coded for one language not work on the other. That's where OpenCL (http://www.guru3d.com/news/apple-gpu-makers-team-on-opencl-standard/) comes in, introduced by Apple.

Not bad for a mainstream card.

Not too good at 1xAA and 1xAF, but when AA is applied it flies compared to the 9800Gtx! Happy to see that ATi fixed their AA issues!

Looks like Radeon 4000 series includes enhanced AA beating nVidia's offering:

Its close to the 280 in some benchmarks but loses so badly in others. kinda confusing performance!

damn lol .. GTX 280 will get beat in nearly every test when 4850 will be in Crossfire :o

Scores are not bad at all for a 147€ (http://www.grosbill.com/4-sapphire_ati_radeon_hd4850_512_mo_ddr3_pci_express-76848-informatique-ati) card, can't wait to see 4780x2 in action

as i though, in some games GTX 280 get beaten by 4850 in CF when there is enough videoram, also min.fps are sometimes same or better! .. holy ****..

Those Computerbase benchmarks are the best i've seen so far as they are accurate when then mention which game has AA or AF working or not.

for instance they've shown Crysis @VH with noAF & Stalker with noAA .. as these games' engines are incompatible with the respected AA/AF modes.

 for them!

wow, I would like to see the perf hit on a P35 board for two of these cards. saving $150 sounds pretty nice, although I dont know that I could ever handle their drivers again.

Here are some P35 Crossfire numbers (with the old ATI cards).

That's why Crossfire is not an option for me. I don't want to buy a new mainboard now, Nehalem is only a few months away.
