View Full Version : Why a GeForce GTX 280 is still much better than a 9800 GX2 or 8800 GT SLI

Actually the GTX280 is more than enough at 1920x1200 2x SSAA for all the games out there except Crysis. But a 4870X2 with shared frame buffer will likely beat it.

The GTX280 isn't enough. It performs like the 8800GTX in 1280x1024. I got benchmarks from some guys here to confirm this :(

And the ATi cards do not support the SSAA modes that i love. I asked to the guys at rage3d to confirm this :(

Yeah but 102FPS at 1920x1200 2xSSAA is pretty good isn't it? :p

I'm kinda apprehensive about my GTX 280 because I feel nVidia are going to shrink it down in the next few months and release a card @ 750 on the core. My GTX 280 may slightly pass 700 on the core and I seriously doubt I'll ever approach 750. If this does happen, I'm going to want the new card.

I just located something to support my paranoia

Yeah, it's an excellent result for today, but i'm developing a texture pack for the game that lowers the frame rate a 40%, due to the huge size of the textures. This is why i need at least a 40% higher framerate, to be future proof with my stuff.

I'm not sure about that exactly, I know when you put a ATI card in high quality AA mode they do some kind of transparency AA, I would assume its SSAA, but I don't think they do a full screen SSAA. At least, that was my experience with my old X1950xtx.
