I decided to do some reconfiguring of my system, and move my old SATA drives onto a raid controller card that I had. It uses the VIA 6421 chipset, and the onboard raid uses the 8251. I was a bit surprised that when I booted the OS automatically loaded a driver with the same date and ID #, but that really isn't the question at the moment. Both controllers appear in the Device Manager with a numerical suffix...3249 for the onboard and 3349 on the card. Also the VIA Bus Master IDE controller is suffixed 571, but that did not change with the addition of the controller card. What is the significance of these numbers?
