View Full Version : See what you made me do?
Can't find anything real, It's just a pipedream right now.

yap, cuda is one of main reason why i went with nvidia again.
with dual core i was re-encoding HD files in h264 2pass in about 30-40 hours
with intel quad it takes about 7-9 hours
with amd quad it takes about 9-13 hours
now with cuda it might take about 1-2 horus
****ing insane !
Do you produce these for work?
I simply don't see much need for the majority of folks to have to ever re-encode HD videos with a home PC...

Plus it seems NV is a little ahead in the GPGPU stuff. I know AMD has firestream or whatever it's called but I've yet to hear of any actual applications close to release that will benefit from it. CUDA is just around the corner and there are already some applications you can get for it and there'll certainly be more in the next few months.
I don't know what you're smoking, CUDA only exists because of what ATI was doing years ago in universities. ATI practically invented GPGPU. Not to mention in the GPGPU sector ATI's chips destroy Nvidias by like 3 to 1.

Right now yes...But unless the vids that leaked of Cuda pulling off incredible speeds in encoding are fud, I think ATI should be worried...VERY worried...I'm thinking of going for one simply for the encoding improvements. The game play increase is just icing on the cake to me...

Let's hope Adobe uses some Cuda for Photoshop. I'd like to see Nero use Cuda for encoding as well. That would be sweet!
Lets hope CUDA can render high quality cg images of boobies, so real you won't need your gf anymore

Supposidely they were testing out real time viewing of a 100MP image using GPU acceleration. It made it possible to zoom in and out instantely while working on an image of that size.
I would love to see all video encoders using CUDA. Another thing that I wonder is how long will it take to get super pi running on the GPU. :D

Yeah, that's what swayed me towards the GTX's. How do you get such as RipBot264 to use the GPU?

Ripbot can't right now, right now I know of only 2 encoders that are being prepared for release. Those should be out in 1-2 months.
Ripbot is not an encoder, it is only a GUI, Ripbot uses x264 for encoding, which is done by different group of people. CUDA support would have to be added by x264 team.
What are the two in development ATM?
