Great, let me know how it goes. What are you coming from? I am looking to make the move to the 4870 this week from my 8800gtx. I want to get some real world feedback on it before purchasing. The price is certainly right, just want to be sure the performance is. Seems to have some inconsistencies in the benchmarks.

Well it kicks ass. I only tried Crysis and TF2, Crysis 1920x1080 DX9 Vista x64 all settings High, average 39.86fps, min 27.98fps, much improved from 2900pro (which I had running 830/2000) which had an average of 27fps and min 17fps, TF2 I didn't bench played 20 minutes though, cranked all settings except only used 4x aa instead of 8x aa, but I'm going to try 8x aa because 4xx with everything maxed 1920x1080 was butter smooth.

Tomorrow I'll try COD4 and Grid, so far I'm impressed, I'm also going to re-run the Crysis bench (think I may have some setting very high, hacks) and turn the fps counter on in TF2.

Well I played some TF2, 1920x1080, everything to its highest setting, 8x AA 16x Ansio, lowest frames seen was 54fps, the average was in the 100-120fps range, with peaks over 200fps. Very nice, game looks great.

Also played some DoD:S BETA, same settings as above, everything maxed, lowest fps seen was 71fps, average in the 120-140fps range, peaks over 200fps.

These were my observations over several maps in both games, on 32 player servers, using the 'net_graph 1' command in the console.

With frame rates like that I'd definitely enable vsync to improve image quality!

That's not bad! My E6600/8800 GTX combo drops into the 30-40 FPS range in heavy action on a 32 man server, but I thought that was a byproduct of my processor, not the video card. On most of the game, though, it's well over 60 fps.

QUIT TEMPTING ME TO BUY THIS DAMN CARD!!!!! :headexplode:

EDIT: Is that single or multi-threaded? I know TF2 is chiefly single-threaded, but isn't there a way to enable multi?

Its single threaded.

Going to do some gaming with GRID later and maybe some COD4, but I have some work to around the apartment first.

this card is a winner.

It depends from how you see it

From the price\performance view yes
But as a high end sollution no...
The GTX 280 is surely a faster sollution

It's the 2nd or 3rd (depending on benchmark) fastest single card solution on the planet. And somehow it's not a high end solution? I don't follow.

I just ordered myself a 4870 and a nice after market cooler - Thermalright HR-03-GT ( & 92mm Zalman fan) :D

I have a 24" monitor, I game @ 1900x1200 and I always have v-sync turned ON.

Given all of the above + my recent horrible experience of 'micro-stuttering' & other weirdness with a 9800 GX2....

For my needs the 4870 is undoubtedly the best solution out there (at the moment) , price : performance ratio is simply fantastic!

Plus some part of me feels really good giving my $$$ to ATi / AMD - we need competition and NVIDIA's crazy GT200 pricing strategy really says something about how they view their customers!

It's sad when some members of their own fansite turn against them in favor of competition. :D

I'll weep quietly when my 4870 arrives next week ;)
