I like what they said about the "Ambush" level -- like the first part of "Assault", but the whole time. That sounds exciting.
I'm kind of skeptical as to what they're saying about the optimization, though. They said they're adding new techniques that won't come at a performance hit, but it doesn't say anything about the game running any better. And they said the $652 machine runs the game "at a high level" (or something like that), not high level -- just "a" high level of detail (which, for Crysis, could be medium).

Beyond amazing... from medium to very high it stands in its own weight class, not even heavy weighters like Stalker touches it!

For what its worth, I built a machine for a friend of mine using a socket 939 X2 4200+, nforce 4 ultra board, 2Gb ram and a 7900GS 256Mb with XP Home and the Crysis demo was reasonably playable at 1024x768 at medium settings. I was very surprised. I only charged him around $450 for the machine last fall.

Now, if EA was smart, they'd jump on the Steam Bandwagon and generate profits. That way there would be minimal piracy compared to what happened with retail Crysis. Yes, they would have to pay a fee to Valve for using the service, but when that's probably insignificant compared to the money they'd probably make, it'd be a smart move. I mean, look at ID and Epic.
