Eh?! I was not aware of such thing on these cards... Hmmm...
RedLedOfDeath?
I kid, and sorry that I am not really able to help with this... Though would be interested in learning more about this issue.
Someone to the rescue please!
There is 4 red led actually.... Can you look if when you turn on your computer if all the led turn on (cycle) then turn off.
I remove the drivers, change the PSU connector (it's a modular PSU), now it seem to be fine. All red led are turn off. But I have not the courage to try furbenchmark again.

The plug must have came loose or your cards not getting enough power. My 3870x2s lit up before when I forgot to plug in one of the Power cables.
The red lights just mean need more POWA. So make sure your stuff has a good connection and your card is getting the correct ammount of amps. If so I wouldnt worry about what you run. And if you card is messing up on something better to find out now and return it then later and not be able to take it back.

Any luck?
Well the problem seem to be the Accelero S1.... GPU temp is a lot lower but it will allways crash.... I try to install it 2 times with no luck.
Put back the orginal heatsink and everything is fine.
I don't understand since many have installed the Thermalright HR-03 Gt with no problem ??

Sounds like a sensor issue. The RAM has heatsinks too, right?
Hmm wonders if the mosfets were overheating, not covered by the aftermarket cooler?
Yeah I put ram heatsink and also on the same VRM cover by the original heatsink....
I really don't understand, it's not the first time I installed a video card heatsink. I was going to order the Thermlaright HR-03 GT but now I don't know. With the original one it's so hot that you can burn your finger if you touch the back of the card for too long and the air coming from the card is so hot you can burn yourself too !!!
it's freaking hot !

Hmmm that is odd. Maybe the S1 is touching something somewhere and causing a short? Other than that, I don't see why it wouldnt work. I know hardwarecauncks had a Thermlaright HR-03 GT working on it in a review, and they said the S1 worked too.
The only other thought I have is maybe theres a sensor somewhere not getting covered by the S1 that the stock HSF does somehow, and that sensor is overheating.
Unless the card has a fan speed sensor in it that doesn't detect the fan on the S1? Or maybe its too slow and its tripping it?

Wouldnt make sense to do that. Take for instance my 3870x2s. I had them watercooled. I had the fan unpluged obviously. Just make sure all components that the heatsink was resting on are cooled properly.

Somebody at Hard forum (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1032682222) looks like had similar problem with
HD 4850 & Accelero S1
Something about voltage regulator (read mainly post #8)
Try to search Google about more info or look for Accelero S1 support.
Did you have any fans on the s1?

Did you test the card before switching the cooler?
To drop temps, Google around and look into flashing the BIOS. I tried the MSI BIOS on my Visiontek because it was the newest, most recommended, and had lower 2d clock speeds only to get some artifacting. I then took my original BIOS and changed the fan profile to speed it up. I went from idling around 80 to idling around 50. My load temps are now around 80.

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I was doing a search on google and came across this. I also have the red light on the back of my card, after using the S1 cooler. And my computer won't even boot.
It worked fine for a week or so, and I didn't even overclock it, and didn't install any bios on it.
I think my card is now dead. Just wonderful, I throw $150 out the window.
This is the last time I ever put any 3rd party cooler on a card. Its not worth it. My warranty is also void because I went and had to cut the heatsink end off so I could use it for the voltage chips on the end of the card.
