If I had a 4850/70 I would try them cause BSOD is nothing that safe mode reboot/driver uninstall hasn't fixed for me b4, cept that 1 time where those damn beta drivers killed my family in 2001.

(The Catalyst 8.7 beta (for both the 32 and 64bit version of Windows XP) contains the 8.520 version display driver (Catalyst 8.6 comes with 8.501), is dated June 25th and features support for almost every Radeon-branded card since the days of the 9500 plus the recently-released Radeon HD 4800 cards.) - apparently

- Try this only if risking your families lifes is worth it, (is that paranoid sounding enough, man you would think I have to come over and your chit with a comment like that)

Waiting on my 4870 as well.

Already packed up the 4850 and returned it. Simply not a large enough performance gap between my overclocked 8800GT and that card. Not the mention the weak single slot cooler really limited overclocking potential, even with the fan running at 50%.

These drivers worked fine for cod4 all night.

I definitely see the difference from my 880gt to this at 1920x1200, 4aa, 16af. Big silky jump.

yea ive noticed it to i oced mine to max overdrive 790/1100 and got the fan at 50% thru xml edit and semms to never get hotter then 60c...i cant wait for my water block and rivatuner to get updated and see if i can get to those diamond lvls....

Can anyone try Age of Conan with these drives and a HD4870?
they said they would fix the performance in the 8.7 drives

I just installed these with my 4870 and spent a few hours on AoC. Even with these betas there is the same flickering textures issues which these were reported to fix. Shadows are also buggy. If you choose char only shadows, the npcs have shadows but they "float" across the landscape, it's the weirdest thing! Hard to describe but one example, the crocs on WS, you will be walking and see a dark, well defined croc shaped shadow, traveling across the ground, only the croc is nowhere near the shadow. Same with some other critters, the apes and tigers. I changed the setting b4 I ran into any humans to full shadows which alleviated that prob but....
if you use full shadow (everything), even the 4870 bogs down
So far framerate at many different spots is better than my old card, but the smoke, sunlight, water, doesn't look as good to me.
