Well, it looks as though Nvidia will be dropping the prices it charges its partners for the GTX 280 by about $90. The retail cards should also drop in price about the same amount. I wonder if Newegg offers a price guarantee? maybe we can get a credit for the price drop?

It's a logical step after seing ATI performance. And it could be even lower in august when 4870x2 hits the streets. It's great to have ATI fighting again, it benefits us all
OC Uk has dropped prices already!

Nice. If they throw that $40 MIR that I've seen on some of the other ones, it's going be be a lot more tempting. :D
They might drop even more if this card kicks A$$ http://www.hardocp.com/news.html?news=MzM0NDIsLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdCwsLDE= (lee)

Dropping "to" $90 and dropping "by" $90 are very different... you got me all excited for nothin'!
He said "to drop about $90".
Did you really think the card would be $90? :captnkill:
Either way, ATI is back and that's good for everyone.

Nah, I didn't think it'd drop to $90 for the public, but maybe that they lowered the manufacturing cost by a ton or had a roadmap for the price drop or something.

Hehe, I also thought dropping the price to 90 seemed a tad excessive..

The article mentions two reasons for the price drop: First, the GTX 280 is not selling as well as Nvidia hoped. Second, ATI's new HD 4800 series is performing a lot better than Nvidia hoped. Both of these factors are likely to push the price of the GTX 200 series down even more.
Yeah, I'm waiting it out. I may even go with ATI for the first time in my gaming history (I missed the 5xxx series debacle as I didn't even have a computer for 2 years).

Yes, because clearly I come across as the person who would believe that nVidia would drop the price of a $500 product to $90 for no reason what-so-ever, when they would likely be losing quite a bit of money for selling it at that price, invalidating the point of being a business with almost no royalty fees.

You're misinterpretting. He, like me,was not implying that you thought that the card had dropped to 90, but were implying that he strongly disagrees with your opinion that Nvidia planned to drop the prices as they just have.
There's probably an appropriate smiley somewhere.
