here is only the most important info from the source_

DirectX 10.1 is also likely to be offered in the next desktop GPU generation, which should debut either late in Q4 2008 or Q1 2009, with a possible ramp throughout Q1 and Q2 of 2009.

What we know for sure is that with Nvidia’s decision to support DX10 .1, the rest of the industry will be embracing this API.

Nvidia’s new GPU generation, we hear, will also be 1.5 to 2 times faster than the current technology.

On a side note, Nvidia will be switching to GDDR5 memory, most likely within 2008. As GDDR5 chips are more available we expect first Nvidia GDDR5 cards to hit the market in Q4.

UPDATE!

LETS DISCUSS THIS! WHAT U THINK?
Why shoould nvidia bring end of 2008 GT200b and then soon this?
Didnt they loose money when they have such much cards? like gtx260. gtx280, 9800gtx plus, (gt200b) and then this?
Or does they still sell such much that the production cost are in theyre wallet?

From reading this, it seems to me that Nvidia was trying to delay releasing anything new until they were able to do a full transition to the new architecture and ram that was available en masse. They really didn't have to do anything quickly because ATI hasn't been very competitive for awhile until the hd4000 series.

Hopefully this comes out with Nehalem.

yeah hopefully

i will buy this with nehalem.
this would be very good

but very pricy. nehalem will be expensive when it comes out. first it will be dedicated only to high end.

well its worth it. im sure.

then i can play the first time ever my crysis i hope with no problems!

This sounds more like someones personal speculation then any sort of insider information, why would NV release a card based on an API that will be possible ecliped by the release of DX11 in a matter of months? This just doesnt jive with me at all.

1.5x to 2x performance improvement sounds very very good. I wonder what the magic sauce will be? 40nm @ TSMC won't be here until early 2009, which is cutting it close but might account for the "possible ramp throughout Q1 and Q2 of 2009" quote. I'm betting NV won't try to do a huge chip like GTX 280 again, but DX 10.1 support will add alot of transistors in itself. so that looks to me like...just a guess....40nm chip with internal tweaks to make better use of HW resources.

I agree with you... I think Nvidia is going to release DX11 cards that will be backwards compatible with dx10.1.

I think DX11 api isn't finalized. and i don't want a "directX by nvidia". More important , where are DX10.1 application ?

what 's the point of create new version of DX , if no thing run on it ? no frankly i see more DX10.1 as an hotfix for DX10. by consequent, i think 10.1 will be the next 3 years interface.

We arent talking about right now, we are talking about the future, so about the time that this card is ready dx11 should be ready also, remember that NV and ATI both have direct input into the API and it isnt just designed by M$.

Here (http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=299110) is more related news... This also points to Nvidia trying to play a wait and see on the API's.

Correct me if I'm wrong... Direct X's specifications are drown up by a consortium of sorts then finalized by MS. Nvidia has some influence in its development but doesn't have any considerable amount of control. I believe Nvidia's point of view on the API's is more along the lines of "What are developers saying about the API's? and What do they recommend us doing?" as they probably want to opt for the more relevant versions rather than waste money on things. Also, I think Nvidia has in the past opted to release major API revisions sooner and aren't too keen on incremental updates. ATI on the other lacked a competitive edge for a while and didn't mind developing 10.1 support whether it would ever be relevant or not.

I don't get it, why doesn't Nvidia have like 2 to 3 cards working in progress right now that would have many new numerous abilities in the works. I feel like Nvidia could be like Intel, didn't intel have a 10ghz chip back like 2-3 years ago?! Nvidia should have a monstrocity card in their lab and they be working to pull ahead of the game.

I don't know how truthful this info is but it's okay, I think the more logical info would be if they are waiting for a DX11 card to bring out. That to me seemed much better especially if DX11 is on the horizon, within the next couple years of coming out at all.

It bugs the heck out of me that Nvid is playing this waiting game all the time. Why not blow us out of the water with a crazy card?? The 280 isn't exactly what I was thinking but better then the whole 59xx series.

The did blow every one out of the water (including themselves) with the G80. And now it seems to be their Achille's heel as they're having a hard time developing another GPU with the same performance boost over the previous generation as what the G80 offered. ;)

"The Way It's Meant To Be Played" (TWIMTBP) doesn't give NVIDIA any close friendships with the developers and publisher.
The money NVIDIA pays to include the logo on the boxes and games does.
AMD/ATI only has to pay more and there goes the friendship and who really wants that.
Beside AMD/ATI can hardly afford it and soon it might be the same for the NVIDIA, not that i wish so.

seen some results on that card and for price (half of the 280) it is a good bye it is up there with the 280 and sometimes beats the 260
