I am trying to watch movies in MPC, but for the life of me I can't get the surround sounding!
What can be wrong? I am using CCCP with the latest X-Fi drivers on Vista 64.

If the video is using the FFDshow Audio decoder to do the sound decoding, just double-click on the blue FFDshow icon on the taskbar(looks like a nice, tiny blue square with letters in it) while the desired file is playing, and enable the Dolby Decoder by checking the checkbox. I have my rear channel delay set to 10ms.
Additionally, you can enable the mixer option, set the Output Speakers configuration to 3/2/1-6 channles and UNCHECK the LFE box. Hit apply and you should be in business.
Just remember, these options are enabled only when their boxes are checked, so make sure you check them.
As God ^ says, but I also had to select an option called 'Win32' in one of the drop-down boxes in the same section, I can't remember exactly which bos it was now, but you'll see it.
If you're not using FFDshow, you should be, it's great. Better picture quality that such as VLC and SM Player.

And if it's not using the FFDshow decoder? Seems like it's not. All I get on the taskbar is the halli media splitter and the FFDshow video decoder...
Are the movies coded in DD or DTS 5.1?
Just download AC3Filter, remember to add the filter in the "external filters" option in the options menu. Now select "internal filters" and remove all of the [x]s.
Under playback -> output -> select the Creative X-Fi from the drop down menu(labeled DirectShow Audio).
Now remove the check from the "Enable built-in Audio switcher" box under Internal Filters->Audio Switcher
Open a video file with 5.1 sound(Dolby digital or DTS) and click on "view" and under "filters" select AC3Filter.
This should open up the menu for ac3filter. From here you can select "Output format" which should be set at 3/2+SW 5.1 channels and PCM 16 bit.
Now you should have fully working 5.1 sound in Media Player Classic. If you're using Vista remeber to download the homecinema edition of media player classic as it allows you to use EVR as your video output render. ;)

This handy little program tells you everything about the media you are watching.
What are the file types you're watching... x264, DVD, DivX?

gspot is great, but it has very limited support.
