XFX GeForce GTX 280 670M

Hey guys,

I've just bought a XFX GeForce GTX 280 670M but my power supply (Chieftec CFT-620A 620W ATX2) has 6-pins and no 8-pins.
Now I know other cards came with a converter so you can use it with such a power supply anyway, but this XFX card didn't come with such cables and had a card saying this instead:

"XFX does not support the use of two 6-pin to one 8-pin power cable converter for these graphic cards. They are only designed to work with high performance power supplies using 8-pin PCI Express power cable"

Now I'm wondering why it would work with for example a MSI or EVGA card and not with a XFX card. Also if it DOES work, I'd like to know ;) (saves me the hassle of buying a new power supply)

Your power supply should be plenty beefy enough for the GTX280.

Thanks for the reply, so I can just use the cable then even though the card that came with the gfx card lists it as a "bad power connection"? :D

EVGA comes with a warning, stating the molex adapter is not recommended as a long term power connect. They suggest using a PSU with a 8 pin connector.

Hmm our local hardware store didn't have such a cable but some guy told me I could just put a 6 pin in and it would work anyway....sounds a bit unlogical but is that true? :/

will not work and dont get 6pin to 8pin cable, it could damage card or PSU, look for 2x6pin to 1x8pin PCIE cable, you didnt have it with your card?

No, I have 1 cable that goes from 2 4 pins (the wide ones, not a square) to 1 6 pin though :/
I didn't really see the use of that

Also 2x 6pin to 1x8pin won't work as I think I only have 2 6 pins and 1 8 pin, the card needs 1x 6 pin and 1x 8pin (which is in my CPU) so I have 1 6 pin left and I'm 1 8pin short :O

The probably reason why XFX doesn't recommend the adapter is that the 8 pin plug is rated for 150W, the 6 pin 75W. Now with a good PSU it shouldn't be a problem but if you've got a top of the line GPU the PSU shouldn't be an after thought.
