That cooler makes it look like a really long ass card!
Should be interesting to see what kind of numbers it turns on Monday then.
Its weird seeing an ATI card all black.

We'll see if the drivers are crap. I hope they got it right, and it makes nvidia engineers loose sleep. From the past they usually step up to the challenge. :)

So i guess GTX280 will be $400 since this card will be $499.

Looks like the 4870X2 with 2GB of GDDR5 will be selling for $549.

Fudzilla might not be right at least with the dates. Other rumors suggest that the NDA is going to be lifted on July 14 and the cards will arrive in stores later on this month and the price should be $499.
I believe we will see both 1GB and 2GB of GDDR5 on the HD 4870x2, the only question is which will arrive first as reference card.
So i guess GTX280 will be $400 since this card will be $499.
I hope so :D time for Tri SLi (lee63)

Pre-release performance evaluations suggest that the Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB GDDR5 model will on an average be 50% faster than the GeForce GTX 280 and in some tests 80% faster.

If true I'm selling the gtx280.

The TechPowerUP Article claims "Pre-release performance evaluation"
But on the source of the article Hardspell (http://en.hardspell.com/doc/showcont.asp?news_id=3707) they linked, i can't find any "performance evaluation".
Anyway if true I wonder how many NVIDIA fanboys will say "it doesn't count it has 2 GPU" :)

I doubt NV and its board partners want to lose money selling cards, at that point they probably would be.
Wow, the first 2GB card!
True, but does it count if it's shared? :p
It's looking good anyways.

This thing is going to be a beast but I'm more interested in how much it drops the price of the GTX 280. :)

I would say does it count if it's not shared?
Anyway in either case it must count some otherwise they would not use it, the memory is not cheap and it looks like this time AMD/ATI likes to compete on only on performance but also on the price.
One thing is for shure, next refresh from NV better have some serious clocks at a low price i need a new card soon. :o

Well 2Gb crossfire or SLI = 1Gb for single cards. So all 1Gb or 2Gb setups are not equal.
Same as quad SLI with 9800GX2 or 7950GX2. You still have the same amount of memory available as a 512Mb card, it just takes an extra 1.5Gb to get the other GPUs working.

'We also advise you not to underestimate Nvidia as 55nm GT200 is around the corner and this one might surprise us.'
That line from the Fudzilla link is what really tweaked my curiosity. Man, isn't competition grand. I don't think I can take too many more surprises.:D

Imagine a 55nm GTX290 with higher clocks than the 280, lower temps and 1Gb of memory for $399. :captnkill:

Could turn out to be an awesome card , but i'm not going for dual-GPU solution just yet.

It doesn't add up.
If it took extra 1.5GB just to get the other GPU on the same board working, than the real crossfire with 2x 512 Mb single cards would be in big trouble.
We just need to wait for the benchmarks but I believe the 2GB is going to make a difference but also believe it would be better if the memory was shared and that was my point.

Every dual-GPU I have owned has had some kind of issue :( never again.

Things change and probably in the future all top video cards will have at least 2 GPU.
