Is there any possible way to overclock a AMD Athlon XP1600+ without unlocking it? My motherboard came with a overclocking utility and i wanted to try it out.

If it is the palamino core there is no motherboard thats goining to unlock it ,you would need to connect the L1 bridges to get the most out of it .

I had a 1600+ that was mysteriously unlocked by/in a MSI nForce1 board (MS-6373, K7N420D Pro). BIOS settings of any multiplier from 9x to 12.5x worked until I put the CPU in another motherboard temporarily. Now the 1600+ CPU is locked even when installed back in the MSI board.

Never did any bridge work on the CPU, and now there's no sign of unlocked-ness from that CPU. Apparently the MSI MB did the unlocking, but then forgot how. Yes, I'd also find this hard to believe from any one else, but I have pages of my overclocking results in a notebook to back up my memory.

YMMV.

There are two ways to overclock, multi and FSB. If your multi is locked and you cant unlock it, then you can only raise the FSB if that option is avalible in your bios.
