Conclusion at the end of second page
This years' Back-to-School season will see a level of competition in the graphics industry we haven't seen in years. AMD is in the driver’s seat for now and will be bundling its Radeon 4800 cards with Phenom processors, offering even more savings (an additional $15-30), while Nvidia has to react. AMD’s graphics unit believes that it can hit a market share of 40% (up from 21% in the first quarter) and it will be interesting to see if that will be the case and what Nvidia will do to hang on to its market shares.

The winner, of course, is the consumer. If you were looking to get a new graphics card anyway, you are more than likely to be able to score a great deal this August. Big performance gains appear to be very affordable now.

I'm not even capable of considering upgrading anything for another month or so... but by that time I'm sure these cards will be uber cheap. So no worries. :D

Same here. I really don't have any games I desperately want more speed in, but I can't wait to see how cheaply I can double or triple my graphics performance in the next couple months.

I'm really hoping nvidia has some surprises for us though. The 4870 x2 is stomping all over the GTX280 in most benchmarks, but I'm still leery about going multi GPU. If nvidia can come up with something to really compete with the 4870x2, then things will be VERY interesting for the consumer.

A faster, cooler, less power hungry 55nm 1Gb GTX200 for $400 or less is where I want things to go. :D

I might just sell of my current rig for big €€€€ profit and go pure AMD/ATI with super cheapness until Nehalem cheapyness comes around :naughty:

Newegg has some killer combo deals (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCombos.aspx?Item=N82E16819103273&SubCategory=343&SortField=0&PageSize=10&page=1) for the Phenom 9950 Black Edition. One of which includes a MSI 790FX CrossFireX mobo, Sapphire HD4850, and some dumb webcam- for $575.00 There's about 3 pages of combos, if you want an uber-cheap all-around rig that packs a lot of punch AMD's latest offering's really are worth considering. :D

EDIT: Just noticed you're not in the 'states. My bad. :o
