View Full Version : Check out these water effects

From a game called Hydrophobia, looks pretty impressive at some parts IMO.

Wow impressive indeed.

only for x360?

Yeah, come on jAkUp. :bleh:

360 and PS3 only.

jAk is a total 360 fanboy ever since he got his Elite. I mean he doesn't even have a X-Fi anymore, that's how lame he has let his rig get. ::(:

water effect is actually pretty impressive. give jakup a break. he probably tired or didn't realize it's for consoles only. :o

Looks pretty good. esp the water particles ..

07-16-08, 04:12 AM
Wow thats frickin cool.

07-16-08, 05:12 AM
I assume it's using some kind of physics acceleration, but it does look really good. Effects like that would have totally made Bioshock.

07-16-08, 05:58 AM
That's a definitely a step up from what we've seen so far. Looks like realtime physics interaction though the water does look a little blocky and not so fluid/particle like as I would've liked. Still a step in the right direction :)

not terribly impressed. Particles arn't new, the waves are actually to large for the environment and the actual collision is awful. There is no deformation of waves when it hits the environment, including the walls. Also no particle system even for the environment so water phases through it.

This thread is about the water effects, not the game, therefore it belongs in the gaming section :p

man, they need to port it to PC. they could do so much more.

Silent Hunter IV had pretty convincing water effects. Refraction and attenuation was modelled in an impressive manner. The "water on lens" effect when the periscope was washed by a wave was also very realistic.

Actually, graphics were only the halfway decent part of that disaster of a game <_<

That was very interesting but they need to up the geometry amount a bit so that the waves dont look to hard edged.

Now games with 3D water?

Silent Hunter 4
Command and Conquer 3
Read Alert 3
Stalker (yes it is 3D water mesh but its horribly animated. Check movement in wireframe mode!)

The new Total War game

Im sure there are more but these where some fast ones. Dunno about Bioshock in DX10, was it 3D water?

SH4 3D water

was that suppose to be impressive? :wtf:

07-16-08, 05:07 PM
Yep, the idea of the game is to drink all that water and see if you die of H2O poisoning.

07-16-08, 05:33 PM
I want rubber ducky simulator!

07-16-08, 05:48 PM
Was hoping for something more along the lines of this (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x38gl6_scanline-flowline-vfx-water-simulat_tech)... :D

07-16-08, 06:26 PM
was that suppose to be impressive? :wtf:

lol yah i gotta agree with you on that. it looked pretty bad...

07-16-08, 06:43 PM
Hope Larabee will run it in realtime :eek2:

07-16-08, 07:56 PM
Well, hopefully it's better than Bio-We spent 6 decades with a thousand man team creating the greatest water simulation evar!-shock, with it's modelled, pass-through non-interactive though nicely textured water effects.

07-16-08, 08:18 PM
Whats so impressive about it, the waves, the particles in the water, the half assed mist on the waves? Nothing impressive about it.

07-17-08, 06:47 AM
Yeah looking at it a second time it actually wasn't that good. Oh well still good that the devs are trying to think in terms of physics interaction now even though this particular case might be pseudo-physics.

Not earth shaking but better than non 3D water! :D
