View Full Version : NVIDIA Preparing GT300 Graphics Processor?
against the current line-up. 4870x2 will rape the GTX 280
You don't need to have the fastest card on the market to be successful. The 4870 clearly showcased that price/performance is where the money is at.
Nvidia failed big time with their ridicules pricing of the gtx 280, but the card in itself is not bad at all, in fact it's much more consistent in its performance than the 4000-series and is the top card in crysis. So it shouldn't be hard to market such a card for the gaming public.

quite a few new GT200 based cards might be on the way

anyone remember what were the code names for GT260 and GT280 cards?
would help to determine where this new GT200-400 will fall in

And just for the record, TSMC's 45GS process for GPU's is actually 40nm (40G), there will be no 45nm GPU's. Don't ask me why it's called 45GS, it's just a misleading name. TSMC's 45LP process which should be underway soon is for low power devices only.

if that is true, nvidia soon will release a better card then GTX 280.

I believe we wont see any 40nm process chips this year, from Nvidia or from ATI. Most predictions are more like late Q1 09.
The only question on my mind is if we will see the 55nm GTX 280 this year.
Nvidia to fully advance to 55nm in 2H08, says paper
Commercial Times, July 9; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES (http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20080709PB200.html) [Wednesday 9 July 2008]
In order to lower production costs, Nvidia is expected to fully advance to 55nm generation manufacturing in the second half of this year and will have 4-5 new GPUs produced under 55nm before the end of this quarter, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report. Meanwhile both Nvidia and AMD are hoping to complete their 40nm tape-outs by the end of this year, the paper added.
Currently, Nvidia's GT200 and G92b GPUs have already adopted a 55nm process and the company's mid-range G96, which will launch by the end this month, will come in both 65nm and 55nm versions. However, the company's upcoming GPUs including G94b, G96b and G98b, which are scheduled to launch after August, will all use a 55nm process from either Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) or United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) with average costs expected to drop around 20%, added the paper.
While nvidia is preparing the GT300 , Ati will be ready to introduce the 4870X4 :

You better get two off them for the GTX 280x2 55nm part many talk about.

LOL HAHAHAHA -- Seriously, what ?
We've been seeing pictures of uber long graphics cards since the early day's
of TNT's... it's becoming one of the worst recycled jokes around here.. :thumbdwn:

I don't think Nvidia needs GTX300, but just GTX280 with same specs on smaller proc and set GPU speed like 750-800Mhz (nana2)

Add GDDR5 on that 512bit bus and we have a deal :D

I'm really banking on a September release for a new videocard, I want to put EVGA's step up program to good use. Personally, I'm not expecting a great leap in power with this next videocard, more of an upgraded GTX280.

Even with its "consistency" it falls well behind the 4870X2 70% of the time. If the X2 releases at the same pricepoint, Nvidia is in trouble. It means they got whipped like a rented mule at the low-end, mid-end and high-end sector.
HD4850 > 9800GTX+; HD 4870 > GTX260; 4870x2 > GTX280

Ha. Thats funny.
My technology building at my first college was called the "Baldor Building". Sponsored by Baldor which was headquarted in that city. I bet I could have got a couple of those cheap for the GTX 290 X2 in Quad-SLI.
