Hahaha my daily Inquirer laugh. Where do they think of this kind of stuff.
Interesting summer indeed.

I know about the Charlie story for few hours but I decided not to post.
Wonder what comes out it. Nothing on Google news, only big discussion about it at [H]ard Forum (http://www.hardocp.com/news.html?news=MzM4MTcsLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdCwsLDE=) and here is what Kyle is saying:
We picked up the phone and called both EVGA and XFX. Word is that Charlie’s story linked above is, “Bogus” or "BS," depending on who you listen to.The main reason I didn't post.^^^^
Well we have some EVGA insiders here lets see what they have to say.

Why can eVGA and XFX not do what Asus' been doing - making cards for both camps?

They could just be offering Intel chipset motherboards... So this idiot has taken a small thing and twisted it into something huge.

Or they could be partnering with Intel as Intel is entering the discrete GPU market.

are intel GPU even ready yet? or close to ready?

I heard Intel's planning to have Larrabee engineering samples ready by the end of the year. Not too soon I guess.

To bad you was too chicken to leave the right e-mail so Charlie in return can call you some not so nice names about your AMD/ATI hate postings or you guys can shake hands. Not sure which one off you two is any better.
I think Jakup would burn the building down if they went ATI. Like in office space and the stapler.

The 4870x2 is too atractive to ignore, that card will be the number one in pure performance for some months, so why EVGA shouldn't have one...

For some months? Guru3D's preview showed it being 100% faster than the GTX280 at 2560x1600... and most other tests it was significantly faster than the GTX280. This card might be the new 8800GTX for a little while. I'm curious if either nVidia or ATi will be able to offer a significantly more powerfull card anytime soon.

Hey....ATi produced some solid cards this time around..:afro:

i still need to see a more detailed review, more game benchmarks. all review only used 4 or 5 games. I want to see how crossfire card scales across a much wider range of games.
if it does it well, i might grab one.

Crossfire still means problems. ATI does not have application profiles, you cannot easily tweak app settings as with SLI / Forceware (and nHancer). No app-based AFR, AFR2, SFR, AA, compatibility bits, etc. Only global settings.
ATI dual card performance depends on ATI programming drivers for each particular game, which will never happen. I have seen tests of 3870X2 on top 5 games, and its performance was good, but when additional 30 games were added, nobody with a brane would purchase it.
I have 80 games installed...

that is excactly what i'm worried about. If i was to buy 4870x2 i need to see a HUGE review. not just the same 4-5 games. Games that ATi probably put most effort in to make sure they run the best.

You're quite possibly the most biased person I've ever met. In Guru3D's preview the HD 48970X2 soundly spanked the GTX280 in every single test they ran... which was only about 4-5 different games. Yet they also mentioned that they tried a large selection of other titles not mentioned in the preview and the results were very similar. The 4870X2 frikken rocks and owns anything else out right now. In GRID it was 100% faster than the GTX280... that is two times as fast. lol
