View Full Version : Vista & Server 08 Performance Hotfix 7-21-08
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953186
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You are running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 on a computer that has multi-core processors. A driver on the computer calls the MmProbeAndLockPages routine asynchronously. In this scenario, data corruption may occur.
This problem occurs randomly. It typically occurs when the following conditions are true:
• The computer has some graphics processing devices installed.
• You are running a graphics-intensive application.
When this problem occurs, the system or the application may crash. The actual symptoms vary, depending on the specific drivers that are installed on the computer.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because of a race condition in the Memory Manager. When a driver calls the MmProbeAndLockPages routine, this routine may read some data that is being modified by another thread. Therefore, data corruption occurs. Depending on how the corrupted data is used, the application or the system may crash.

Put it on my site if you don't want to go through the registration and trouble that MS requires to get the fix.

anyone have 64bit version?
Seems like my PC is hitching after installing this update. It took me over a minute to get to this page from a clean browser start. Nothing seems to be peaking out or anything and there's no hdd activity. It's just really lagging my PC.

another recent important update
A multiprocessor computer that is running a Microsoft Windows operating system stops responding on a black screen after you resume the computer from hibernation
Consider the following scenario: • You have a multiprocessor computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Server 2008.
• You resume the computer from hibernation (S4).
In this scenario, the computer stops responding on a black screen.

one more
On a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 and that has UAC and Internet Explorer 7 protected mode enabled, Internet Explorer 7 may stop responding when you try to visit any Web site
Consider the following scenario: • You have a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.
• The computer has the User Account Control (UAC) and Internet Explorer 7 protected mode enabled.
In this scenario, Internet Explorer 7 may stop responding when you try to visit any Web site. When this problem occurs, a blank Internet Explorer window appears, and the pointer circles constantly. To escape this condition, you must end the Internet Explorer process (Iexplore.exe) in Task Manager. Or, you must restart the computer.

anyone have 64bit version?
I do and it installed fine. This may fix this memory error bsod I was getting when playing games sometimes.
It happened so randomly I never could find out what it was. Thought maybe not enough voltage before but we will see if this fixed it.

From what I understand, it has yet to be tested on a Skulltrail platform. Let us know how that one goes Lil' Feller. :D
