It's would be audio in from a soundcard. Does it look like an analogue connection or digital. Post pics if you can. It's possible it's not actually functional on this generation and that a HTPC 280 is coming later?

Ah ok, yeah it's a digital in that gets passed through to a HDMI connection.

You need the SPDIF connector.

The ATI cards have on board audio chip (all for less money) and it works with HDMI cables, simple like that.

I know the Abit IN9 32x-Max WiFi mobo I used to have had a SPDIF out next to the gfx card for this reason. Not seen anyone that's made use of it though.

GTX280 is faster then 4870, before you mention crossfire, i won't do crossfire because i don't feel like changing motherboards especially now when nehalem is so close.

How do you know the HD 4870x2 is going to be quite a bit more?
Anyway it didn't bother you first when you did pay more than double for the GTX 280 compared to HD 4870.
Sure you was lucky and was able to return it but don't forget it happened thanks to ATI pricing.

Anyway if you read my reply one more time you would notice I was not talking about crossfire or even HD 4870x2. Same I was not talking what is faster.

Since nVidia started to include these ports (GX2, GTX 280) I get some sort of a very loud and annoying background noise over my internal TV speakers (DVI-HDMI and HDMI-HDMI cables). I have to mute the speakers. That's only while playing games, desktop is still ok. I don't even use that port but I still get that noise :(

are you using proper DVI-HDMI adapter? or one that you bought somewhere.

ones that are supplied by nvidia, evga etc.. are slightly different then ones you can buy in store.
