Well the Nvidia has been hyping the NV30 for longer than ATI has had the R300 ;) And NV30 was supposed to be released that long ago.
What new things should ATI bring now??? We all know that DX10 is still very distant and the only thing I have heard about betwen then and what we have now is 3.0 shaders and maybe som shadow thingies. ATI's next core is based on tech that isnt available yet, how are they gonna release it?
Besides, the competition only recently caught up with ATI tech wise, and releasing a whole new core now wouldnt be that smart atall even if they could.

New AA algorithims. More Anti Aliasing Samples. Better Anistropic Filtering implementation,
So far all cards from both ATI and Nvidia have not improved upon their own aglorithims other than making them faster.
Perhaps a new feature that *gasps* improves Image Quality in games

I mean how about graphic card companies actually innovate for once? I'm tired of everything only being about AA/AF, How about new features?

The problem is, why innovate when it takes game developers so long to catch up? We're pretty much still waiting for games that make extensive use of DirectX 8, let alone DirectX 9.
Also, we're going to have a long wait for DirectX 10, so both ATi and nVidia will be stuck waiting for this for a while.
Beyond that, I'm not sure that there is much more that can be done to innovate - We live in hope though....

I think the GPU-world is going in the same direction as the CPU world. Both Intel and AMD release higher clocked CPUs every 2 or 3 months. Most of the times they are the same CPUs as the predecessors but only the clockrate is higher.
We will probably see nVidia and ATi doing the same thing in the future, by releasing clockbumped versions every 3 months. This way they will still be able to maintain a productcycle of 18 months, because (in ATi's case) all clockbumped versions will be based on the same R3x0-product. The yield of the 0,15u process of the R3x0-cores is probably very good, so they will be able to pull this off and still make some good money.
ATi has already started. And I'm guessing they will continue doing so with the R4x0 series, bij first releasing R420, then R440, maybe R460 and so on and on...

Not really. r9700Pro was already better than gfFX5800Ultra. There really was no need for the r9800Pro, especially with the moderate speed increase that it brought. My feeling is that they should have released r360 instead of r350.
Also look at the r9600. By all accounts, RV350 is a badass overclocker. Why are the default clocks so low then? Another mind boggling decision. Just clock r9600 higher and phase out r9500. Simple.
And yet now they are going to release a RV360 too? Jeez.
Well it's a game of poker, you can show all you 've got as he other party will beat you and than the company would be nowhere in the next 6 -9 months, until a major refresh.
I am pretty certain that R9800 came out to put any speculations about NV30 vs R3xx core out of the picture ( even with it NV marchitechture machine managed to show some "performance wins" with NV30 in mainstream magazines... for those casual readers... )
So I guess ATI had to wait for NV35 to come out to pull the ace out and beat NVidia 1 month down the road again... it is not only about the tech it is about the "speed king" and buyer perception - I am sure ATI would put dustbuster on only to beat NV35 if they needed it, but I would think that will not be neccessary ;)....

I could see people using that exact same argument about Full Screen Anti aliasing about 3 years ago.
One of these companies has got to do something that will set them apart from another. Features are what buy me. Not subjective IQ comparisons about cards that are pushing 300+ FPS in Quake at max quality :)

Features that can be applied to any game without the game actually having to support them is a different matter - I'd love to see more features like that.
The thing is, I can't think of what else could be done in that department that would be revolutionary rather than evolutionary... Although I suppose the fact that I can't think of any is the reason why I don't work for ATi or nVidia. ;)

How about fully independent triple head surround gaming running off an R390 MAXX card.:cool::dance:

Well there's gotta be somethen, They make the big dollars to think of this stuff, I mean come on. Back during the Days of Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn, We were thinken "Wow Graphics can't get any better than this"
And obviously they can, Pixel Shading is nice and everything and so is AA, And AF but neither really seperates one company from another.
When the Voodoo5 was released (even tho Power VR had the first AA) Its Anti Aliasing really did seperate it from the Geforce cards, If only the Voodoo5 had Geforce tech it coulda been much better
