Education Situation

So the UK has historically had a very different set of options to 18 year olds. Some start work, some go for various training courses to lead in all kinds of directions, and historically the top achievers got into universities. Since Tony got in people have been crammed into universities in the idea that this is a good thing.

Leading to parents not only having to pay college fee's but new "Top Up" Fee's to ensure their childs education.

The above article shows how the opposing party in the UK plans to resolve that situation but what i want to draw reference to is the comment at the bottom. Exclaiming that the new plans would mean less peopel get into universities. Simply because they would be chosen on merit alone!

Now i'm all far equal ops, but what i dont like is over agressive opportunities thrown at people at the expense of those who would normally be in this situation on merit (academic achievment or otherwise)

The same thing is kind of happening in America. The issue of weather minorities should be accepted over those who better fit the academic standards of a university, which they say basically are whites. I don't know, I am kind of twisted on this, I think everyone should be given an opportunity.....but what about the best woman/man should get the job credo?.......but then again sometimes you cant deny that some minorities (and woman) have it worse and for them to make it that far.....well they should be given a "spot" to prove themselves, same thing with the poor in your case, IMO if they have made it that for....well a certain percentage should be given a chance sadly over those who some will say better meets the "merits".

LOL, its too complicated to have a "right" answer, personally i fall on the "best person get the best slots" credo with the exception of a small percentage (not a large one!)
