Can anyone tell me for certain whether a x16 slot can be used for something besides a video card? Can you use it for a card using x1, x4, x8 or even x16 if there are any cards of that type, other than video cards? I hope that someone can give me an answer quickly, because a bid that I'm about to place on a MB hinges on this?

Thanks, that helps. I would hate to think that a slot of that size would go to waste without a SLI setup.

My first bid failed, but I won on an ASUS A8N32 SLi Deluxe with part of the accessories. It didn't have the CD, manual or i/0 plate, but I can download the first two items, so now I have to see how much I'm going to get ripped for the plate.

My server's board has an x8 RAID5 card in the x16 slot. Works prefectly.

I knew that there is generally not a problem, but the first MB (got outbid) was an Asus A8N-SLI Premium, and when there are x2 video cards in SLI, the x16 slots perform at only x8. This got me to thinking that the slots were tied together in a fashion that might effect mixing or matching items installed in them. The MB that I won does have true x16 slots, so my thinking was no longer valid, even if it were true.
