The Razer Lachesis Gaming Mouse is on my mind. The features are enticing...especially the 4000 dpi precision. I'm currently using the SideWinder Gaming Mouse and it's fantastic. I'm wondering if I should get this to replace it.

If anyone has used this mouse, can you tell me if it is more comfortable than the SideWinder? I've read mixed reviews on the ergonomics.

Bought the Lachesis last year but I replaced it with a G9 a few weeks ago. It suffers from some very strange lags, the cursor suddenly stops and the mouse didn't respond for a moment. Very annoying!

have you upgraded the firmeware
and its very sensitive fore dust in the sensor

A new driver and firmware update were released that addressed this a few days ago.

1. Fixed Random jumps Issue
2. Fixed Axis block issue

Sweet looks like a new driver for my Habu as well. No list of changes that I can see for that though.

Does anyone who uses this mouse actually have it set to 4000dpi? I have my MX518 set to 1600 when I game (I use 1000 in windows, and sometimes I flick it down to 1000 when sniping in games for more control) and the mouse sensitivity sliders are almost all the way down in most games.

I can't imagine 4000dpi. I don't think its even possible to move something 1/4000th of an inch with your hand...

This is me exactly. The Habu goes to 2000 and I like never use it. I'm set at 1600 for 99% of the time. To me, anything over it is just a waste.

so is there any reason to get this if I have the SideWinder?

The polling rate thing is just snake oil. By default, the 125Hz polling rate of USB works out at 8ms between polls, which means that it already is bottlenecked by the Vsync, which forces a 60Hz update rate, with a latency of 16.7ms. There's no gain to be had in tweaking the polling rate at all.

Why does it say created 5 months ago, and modified today? I already downloaded it a month ago, so whats the deal?

I think there is a noticeable difference when changing the polling rate. I'm not sure how though. Years ago, I remember actually using a PS\2 adapter on my USB mice because I could then adjust the polling rate in the Device Manager to 200. It made the mouse movement significantly smoother and didn't eat up USB bandwidth.

Increasing the polling rate for a USB mouse will eat up your USB bandwidth so if you use USB devices it'll actually slow them down. It can also create more load on the CPU, though its probably a rather tiny amount with modern systems.

Ok...so I ordered a whole Razer desktop set to play with

* Razer Tarantula Gaming Keyboard $77
* Razer Lachesis Gaming Mouse (Banshee Blue) $65
* Razer Exactmat with Exactrest Gaming Mouse Pad & Wrist Rest $30 - Refunded
* Razer Destructor Professional Gaming Mat $33

I also ordered another 4 GB of OCZ Reaper 1066 MHz memory to total out 8 GB of RAM.

I'll be formatting and installing Vista SP1 x64

The last thing I need to upgrade is my video card. I'm holding off on that though because I want to get the Antec Quattro 850 or 1000 watt PSU. The 850 is 170 on Amazon and the 1000 is 200. I figure for a little more I'll get the 1000W so it'll last me 5 years. If I do decide to get it, I'll get the Antec 900 case with it. It'll go nicely with the Razer stuff since they all glow blue.

Damn...I'm gonna be broke lol
