Where can I read some reviews of the AMD Athlon XP 3200+? How does its gaming performance compare to that of the Intel Pentium 4 3GHz (800MHz system bus)?

www.tomshardware.com

not a very uplifting article...

In one sentence, Intel still ownz because of the mighty 800mhz fsb.

Kain check the front page, I'm exhausted after that:p

I'm not that interested in the new Bartons.

I'm more interested in the new stepping of the XP1700s.

A $50 CPU that can overclock to the 2.2Ghz and kick a Barton's ass?

Gimme!! :D

put me in the know Sy, which stepping is this? :D

Look no further than those wonderful lads at Sudhian! :afro:

With water-cooling, these suckers might just hit 3 Ghz!!

The 3200+ is more a marketing gimmick than anything else.

altough there is a benefit going to a 400mhz fsb, its not enough to keep up with 800fsb p4.

I hope the athlon64 3200+ is much faster than this.

After checking the reviews you can see the performance, but if you want a slightly more 'value' idea, get a slightly slower cpu for a fraction of the price.

These $50 xp's seem to have potential...

Rampants right, the price is insane for the totally lacklustre performance.

AMD have to do something. The Athlon 64 doesn't look set to return the perfromance crown, and the Bartons are getting hammered by the P4 and the 875 chipset.

Opteron looks nice though, but still falls short of a Xeon.

Ath64 has UT2003/4 ports and Half-Life 2 (client) ports though. I'm psyched. To me it does look to regain the crown, but I don't know the final speeds or anything. I suspect they'll be >2ghz, and it apparently has 1meg cache

And http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=axp3200&page=8 says the new AthXP does damn respectable.

By the way, disregarding price, would you get the Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz (533MHz system bus) or the AMD Athlon XP 3200+?

3.06 without a doubt.

AMD, for reasons of respect and nforce2

Does the Abit IC7-G support the Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz (533MHz system bus) processor? Or does it only support the 800MHz system bus processors?

AthlonXP 3200+.

But I would take a Intel 3.0GHz/800 over both of them.

As far as games go, that sure seems to depend which site you go to.

Huh?

The P4 3.0Ghz wins in game tests over the 3.06GHz as shown by The Big 3(Tom's, [H], Anand).

Yeap only games/applications that rely on pure CPU performance is where the 3.06 wins in most cases the 3GHz will win out right.

Oh, ok. When the battle is close, I'd rather support the underdog. AMD isn't doing too well financially, and I really think we need at least two major players in the industry. We already saw what happened with Intel when they were dominant. They lapsed, and slowed down innovation. If AMD wasn't there to take the crown back with the original Athlon, where would we be today in terms of CPUs? What would be the fastest thing on the market?

Kind of like ATI pwning nvidia. nvidia needed a wake up call. I believe that they may have gotten it. Same story with the Lakers.
