View Full Version : That Much Closer To Going Strictly Vista
I installed Vista Ultimate 64bit a couple of days ago and so far I am liking it a lot. Just been browsing the web and such, so far, but tonight I installed CoD4 and copied my profile over and played for about an hour or more. Not sure, but it seemed to run a bit smoother than it did on XP, maybe not. I am currently dual booting XP Pro 32bit and Vista 64bit and will continue to do so for a while. Maybe, just maybe, in the near future, I'll just wipe that HDD that has XP Pro 32bit on it! ;)

I have a dual boot setup too, but I abandoned XP once I saw games run identical

I went back to XP for a while when my SLIed cards were downclocking in Vista. After the latest betas the issue is gone. So, back in Vista with what appears to be a very solid system... That's my number one priority: Stability.
you will soon find that you really dont need XP. if you really do think you may need it for a program, install it on a virtual machine. that's what i did. took only about 2GB of space, so i dont need an entire partition and i can run XP any time i want :)

Except for issues with Creative's Sound Cards (which I consider resolved from where I'm standing) when Vista first came out, I've had no issues at all with Vista. No application issues, no drivers issues (except as mentioned above), no gaming issues (I did have to set Tron 2.0 to run in XP compatiblity mode).
I still don't see why people are beating up Vista. (And before Vista came out people were always bitching about XP this and XP that and how much MS sucks.)
Apple is running those damn ads about how everyone is flocking back to XP, but I just don't see why. I guess there's a lot people trying to run 6-8 year old hardware or software or something?
Anyhoo... I think SLippe will like Vista just fine. At the very least it's just as good as XP. Plus Vista does had improved support for 4GB+ of memory and better multi-threading support.

I'm using Vista alot more with the HD4870. ATIs drivers are much more stable and smoother in Vista than Nvidia's ever were. I think alot of my issues were Nvidia driven; I don't get the nasty tearing (8800) that drove me nuts with the ATI card installed.
Apple FTL. Overpriced Intel machines running a Fisher Price OS.

Vista FTW.
I've been using it for over 18 months now and I think I only bothered with XP for about month back in the spring of 07 when I had a driver problem with my X-Fi card (which was fixed shortly after).
I haven't had any major complaints since then.
Compatibility has been great too. Just yesterday I installed Fallout 2 and it works fine with no extra tweaks other than the unofficial patch.

Vista fricken rocks now and is much more better than XP and with new hardware, their is no chance in hell i will look back but only to fix folks who have XP with skins that look like Vista.
I use both flavors of Vista and have no issues with either of them.
XP is really ok for those who have old business software like Quickbooks or Turbotax or even free oem software burning suites that came with their drives other than that xp blows now.

Still dual boot here but the only reason I like Vista64 better is due to the superior Superfetch. 8gigs+Superfetch and my programs/games load near instantly. (nana2)

I think its a load of bull that lots of people are flocking back to XP. There are a bunch of hardware makers still trying to sell off their crappy old harware (that probably wouldn't run any recent version of OSX either) or these new low-power low-performance chips that couldn't handle Vista. That is all.
If every PC sold out there cost upwards of $1000 (a la Apple) with the performance benefits of $1000-valued hardware then all new PCs would run Vista flawlessly.

We knew you meet 32 and 64.
As for the plus packs, they sort of arrived in the for of Dreamscenes for Ultimate. They are nice for HTPCs shums.
How does anyone cope without nView on Vista?
I'm a regular gamer and movie nut, so am constantly swapping my two displays with a hotkey (CTRL + F1) under XP.
Having to load the slow control panel, find the right page, and even then hit yes to a confirm box just to swap would drive me mental...

We aren't as mentally fragile as you.
I dropped XP in July 07 when nVidia got the SLI driver to a reasonable level. Never looked back :).
