fedex arrived around 6pm. HTPC is all put together, so far everything is working ;)
But now I need to grab a better cooler, stock is to loud, sometimes it hits the high RPM mode.

MSI KA780G
2GB Crucial DDR2 800

XFX have a few entry level Nvidia cards with audio pass through and a proper HDMI port.

What do you guys think of this? Would the CPU be able to play HD video well? I don't plan on watching any blu-rays or anything. This is just anime and emu's only really...

it should play 720p, but probably will strugle with 1080p.

No real anime is available at 1080p and I got a PS3 for Blu-Ray.
Don't 6600GT's have Video Accelerations?

all the suggestions here look great. my two cents about HTPCs from my experience is stay away from 780G chipsets. Inadquate northbridge cooling and artifacts!

i have 780G chipset board now, so far no artifacts, but tons of other issues. really regret buying this board.
No issues at all, what issues are you guys having?

VGA driver for 3200 took over an hour to get working correctly, SATA is still not working correctly, there is 20-30 seconds delay while booting windows, where PC just sits there doing nothing.
Sorry to hear that dude mine was a brainless install, audio out of hdmi works like a champ to even the 3200 + 3450 hybrid worked like a charm. Then I disabled the 3200 onboard and just went solo 3450 and gained all my system memory back and most all BD are running 25% CPU and under.

oh another problem to add to list, HTPC won't go to sleep.
when I enter "sleep" monitors goes off, keyboard and mouse is unresponsive, but entire PC stays on, fans spining, optical drive working.
i miss my 939 socket nforce board.

nekro, sorry to hear about the problems you're having with the 780G chipset. Mine has been great so far, no problems whatsoever. Maybe a bad board?

Has anyone ever used the 730i motherboard for a htpc? Looks like a nice motherboard to go with.

nforce8200 for amd or nforce9300 for intel are perfect boards for HTPC, can do 7.1 audio over HDMI

That's a common bug with new systems, both Intel, AMD and Nforce. All Vista PCs in my house do it since SP1.
