i use horizonz, waiting for the new version, or new aeon.

not sure what you mean by the second question.

Have you tried setting up emulators or used XBMC for anything other than movies, music, or pictures?

It might be a bit to learn at start, but it is not that hard to understand. Basic stuff like file view, shares and actual playback is all very easy. Just when you want to big a bit deeper.

Highly recommended.

not yet, main purpose for XBMC are TV Shows and Music, I have pictures on it, but don't use that as much. Maybe 5 movies.

XBMC is a little tedious at first for some, but don't fret. I just learn by messing with it more than searching for things online. XBMC forums are a bit unorganized IMO.

I just got Library mode working yesterday lol. Works like a charm though, probably one of the coolest features of XBMC! Now to add themoviedb.org to the scraper list. :D

I will try to make a short video of my XBMC, fraps should be able to record it since it is running in OpenGL

BTW I have my library almost setup, there is a small issue with the scrapper with languages other then English http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=42861

Hey everyone,
i was surfing the net looking for a solution for my 1080p playback problem when i stumbled on this site.

It seems that some people here have kind of the same setup as I do so i was wondering if there was a solution yet.

I have tried two 1080p (mkv) movies with the video and the audio out of sync and some times choppy.

I am using media player classic home cinema with coreAVC codec

here are my specs.

any help would be appreiated.

1080p should play fine on your PC (if used with hw acceleration).

could you post some additional info?

CPU usage while playing?
Codec Packs installed?
mediainfo for the file?
bitrate on that MKV file?
drivers up to date? installed correctly?

For some reason, my HTPC is freezing up if I don't use it within a 24 hour period. I dunno if it's Vista or if it's XBMC or what. I'm thinking about putting XP or a different media program such as MediaPortal on there.

Just the latest stable version, not anything like Jester's latest version. The bad thing is that it gets to where I can't even ping my HTPC when I wanna do a FTP transfer.

FTP is disabled in one of the latest builds

I'm using FileZilla for FTP :)

Maybe I'll install the latest Jester version this weekend.

So I've noticed that by "streaming" my movies from my gaming rig to my HTPC with XBMC over Gigabit is a horrible idea. Enough lag and audio sync problems to notice. Should I just move my 1TB hard drive back to my HTPC or should I look into why my Ethernet speed is so slow?

I just did a transfer test with a 6GB movie and found that the average transfer speed was 40MB/sec. Is this normal?

40mb/s is low

i stream all my stuff from my server over gigabit switch and intel nic, don't have any sync issues. when when playing blu-ray rips with HD audio

Should I consider buying PCI NICs? I'm just using the on-board Gigabyte (the brand) NICs now.

i did have a issue with my realtek on my older board caused inconsistant performance, thats the main reason why I bought an intel nic.

Hmm. I may have to try and find a good deal on some NICs. Intel's start at $30 so that's a little too much for me. And my main OS hard drive may be on it's last leg. May have to get it replaced before too long. :(
