View Full Version : GT200 x2s getting ready for a Sept launch
Can't give the specs because I don't know them.
But an X2 based off the GT200 chip will be released in 6-8 weeks.
Price will be under $600 us and it will be on 55nm.

It better damn well be way under $600.00 considering what ATI has coming around the corner.

I dont want another crappy x2, i want a bridged SLI memory that can come close to a 2x scale.
Only single chip cards for me from now on :afro2:

Worthless pieces of crap. Today, I uninstalled my second GTX280 and put it back in its box. If you ignore the frame rate, there's no better experience than single GPUs. So what if I have to settle for less detail? At least I don't have to deal with hitching and micro-stuttering and hiccups and lower minimums... Back to a pleasant gaming experience... ATI can keep its 4870x2... Nvidia can keep their GX2s as well...

For $300 I'll buy that second one off you.

I got it for 600e and I'm halfway across the world... My brother's getting it at some point...

Good to know. In that case your rumor is as good like this one you posted. (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=115378)
Slappi many people know you're the worst kind of NVIDIA fanboy troll.
Maybe time for the mod to close the baloney thread.

Is this the in thing to make up rumors nowadays?
GTX200Quad is out soon anyway.

Hmm you're saying that GTX 280 SLI hitches and stutters whereas hell_of_doom227 says it's very smooth in his thread:

Does it have to do with Vsync being on or off? I plan to have it always on.

Having vsync off makes both hitch like crazy: Crossfire and SLI.
But with it on, I swear that Crossfire is every bit as smooth as a single 4870. I went from a single to dual and really can't tell a difference aside from a much higher, smoother framerate when in Crossfire on most of my games.

Sounds like the best route for me as well the way things stand with the X2 varients now.I would really like to be seeing these graphics cards going dual or even quad core in the same chip.I will however look to get a second cheaper graphics card (i.e. 9600gt) if Physix takes off and gets implemented as well as it should

Well I don't think we'll see that many new high end single GPU solutions anymore :(
Smaller chips with SLI/Crossfire on board will be the future I guess. 1 GPU for low end cards, 2 for midrange and 4 for highend cards.

Reliable previwers have already gone on record saying that the 4870x2 does NOT suffer from any degree of Micro-Stuttering.
Search the boards here at NVNEWS for the posts with links etc.

Drivers by default set the micro-stuttering to 90 degrees. But I find changing it to 360 degrees completely reverses the effects.

Some people don't notice micro-stuttering. Maybe it's my system setup, but it was certainly not a pleasant experience for me. And sometimes you get horrible scaling which makes it an even worse experience. I might give it another go later, when the GTX280's drivers have matured...

Has anyone heard if Nvidia will be using an improved on-board SLI solution like ATI, eg the PLX chip? Or are they using the same technology as they did with the GX2?
Tony.

It's almost impossible with the actual 65nm chips. Even the GTX260 needs 182W.
Actually, you can feed the cards with 75W from the slot, 75W from the PCIex6 & 150W from the PCIex8 connectors (if i remember correctly).
If you do the maths, 182W * 2 = 364W > 300W.
Of course, if you put both GPUs on the same PCB, you could save some power usage, from the redundant parts that you do not need. But still you need to lower the power consumption by more than a 20%.
This could be possible with the 55nm shrink. But, still you will need to lower the power comsumption, to keep the card working with standard cooling.
Also, you have another problem. If you want to put 2x GT200 GPUs in the same PCB, you need to put 2x times 512bit lanes for the memory controller. Obviously the solution here is to use 2 PCBs, like the GX2 did.
Also you could consider using GDDR5 with a 256bit bus, or even with a 384bit bus, to keep the same bandwidth.
Personally i think that a 512bit PCB is much more expensive than a 256bit PCB with GDDR5, due to the complexity of the PCB (and you need 2 for your gx2 style card).
As resume, nVidia needs that shrink, and if it's possible, a GDDR5 controller to save money on the PCB.
These are my thoughts, based on my readings at b3d forums. They use to discuss all this stuff, and they use to be right.
There is no source, and all this stuff is just speculation.
