All this talk about DoomIII benchmarks, just out of curiosity is there ANY hope for us GF4TI owners? I really have NO desire to get rid of this card I love it and I simply dont wanna spend any money until Athlon64. Anyone got GF4 benchs? Any chance of running DoomIII decent at least at 800x600 and med details?

And since I'm quickly falling in love with me own GF4 ti4400 I'm kind-o-curious me own self.

My card sucks at the alpha & the 3dm2k3 bit that LOOKS a bit like Doom3 so I was sort of planning on building a new rig when Doom3 comes out. (I don't think me super-beloved 1.4 tulatin which is STILL rocksolid at 1.75 will quite have the "ooomfff" for D3 anyways. :( )

Still, I know I'm gonna try it. :)

Yeah man, upgrade :)

From the looks of things Carmack has made the GF3 Ti500 the absolute low end for
Doom ]I[

The bright side, by the time D3 comes out, a GF FX 5800, or whatever the NV35 Mid range card ends up being should be downright affordable.

but but but... the GF4 has been so good to me... seriously i never knew a card could perform so carefree for me. But you make a good point maybe more cards will be cheaper by then... but what kills me is having to upgrade my system over one damn game. I would rather play at 800x600 at med res... the question is can I? :(

has nobody benched GF4TI w/ Doom3 at a resolution besides 1024 and up? :scarey:

Glad I've had this GF3 Vanilla for a while so I have an excuse to upgrade like a mofo :D

well i have a similar system than yours..
AtlonXp1900+ and Geforce4 ti4400. ,at least 256megs of ram.
at 640x480 in HIghquality no AA/AF the game was smooth
and very playable in the beta demo..
this is the sweet spot settings of Geforce's4 with low system.

however at 800x600 was not so smooth..
but it was still playable but there were times when the frames rates drops
to much when there where many monsters..

if you dont mind playing sometimes with lag , like it happens in internet
when you have a slow connection the you will be able to choose 800x600
with Great IQ .

my game settings were 1024x768 HQ no aa/af , with was
laggy at all times Belows 20fps.. it was very slow when there was
many monters ,but it was not impossible to play.. because the game already is a slow FPS action game ,and it is very smooth and very playable if you get always from 25-30fps .. those were the scores of my friends R300 at 1024x768

were it was impossible was beyond that resolutions , in my Gf4
and tried it anyway just to see the slideshow of graphics.. :)

*all you need*is contant 20-30 frames to play very smooth the game..
if i remember well my
my atlonxp +Geforce4 gets ->from 20-45fps at 640x480
from 15-25fps at 800x600
from 10-20fps at 1024 x768

my friends P4 2.4Ghz +R300 from 30-60fps at 640x480
25-45fps at 800x600
20-30fps at 1024x768

sweet spot settings for Geforce4 is 640res. for R300 is 1024x768..
for the Nv30 and Nv35 1280x1024...
but you will find people playing lhigher than their sweet spot settings ,
if they have faster machines.

so the answer is Not ,if you dont mind 640resolutions *at the least*
with highest quality settings then your system will be fine.
the games looks really nice even at those settings .
and forget about AA/AF the game is so dark that you will
not notice the diference if they are used or not.
heck even the Geforce1 will be able to play Doom3 , carmack have done a good Job with minimun system requirements.

Nv40 you made my day. I think I could handle playing at 640x480 if it means saving money. I know that sounds nuts, but I really do like this card THAT much and donot wanna upgrade yet, and especially not just for DoomIII and 3dmark2k3. Thanks for the numbers.

Considering the FX 5200 can get 37FPS at 1024x768, I would hope a GF4 Ti would be at least playable. In a slower paced game, to me, even as low as around 22-23 fps is still playable.

Well, in Tom's 5900U review, the GF4 ti4200 128Mb makes 38FPS @1024x768 Medium Quality.
Whats the diff between MQ and HQ?
AF?

np...
also remember last year QuakeCom carmack demostrated the
Geforce4 playing doom3 at High quality settings.
i thing he was using .. the 640x480 HQ.. or even more..
with Higher CPus ,video cards gets extra Power.. :)

at Medium settings or low IQ settings even a Geforce4Mx will be
able to play Doom3 .. :D

well i have never tried Medium settings , hehe
im to paranoid for always best IQ.. :)

in those benchmarks even the Geforce4Ti200 scored better than the radeon9600pro :)
amazing! they are using lower PResicion in Colors ,but
even carmack told noone its going to notice the diferences
between DIrectx8 cards and directx9 cards unless you point them
where the diferences are in the screen.. :)

according to Anandstech review ..of the Nv35..
he told that in medium settings Doom3 looks pretty good too.
even he posted a screenshot.

38 average frames rates in Doom3 at 1024x768 is a lot
of frames !!! more than enough for Doom3 , later i will check those
medium settings ,they looks very promising .
if the IQ is like the Anandstech screenshot. :)

That's what Carmack has stated. I'm sure there are other differences, we just don't know what they are.

The question is not whether the GF4tis will play Doom 3 decently but how long after you buy the game will you upgrade your video card! If there are sub-$200 NV35s & 9800s (realistically 128 meg) when the game comes out then I would find out it really hard not to upgrade for 3-4 times the power.

it will play it just fine. There are still more optimization to be done...and if a ti 4200 gets 38 fps at 1024x768 i believe its gonna improve a little...

this doom3 madness is so funny..:p
