havnt seen any swimming yet because i have been busy, really looking forward to it though. I pretty much like all water sports.

I'm a swimmer myself, but when I watched the Men's 400 IM final, I was almost more nervous than I've been before my own races! My heart was beating alright!

I have no words to describe Michael Phelps...

did Ian Thorpe (sp?) retire? i remember he was racing Phelps for the most swimming medals last time.

Thorpe did retire, but he never got as many medals in one Olympics as Phelps. Thorpe's N1 stroke is freestyle, whereas Phelps does IM, fly and freestyle. Phelps did race him in Athens in the 200m freestyle. Thorpe won, Peter van den Hoogenband was 2nd and Phelps came in 3rd.

Now however, Phelps holds the 200m freestyle WR which belonged to Ian Thorpe untill the 2007 swimming World Championships.

Phelps won a total of 6 Golds in one Olympics and Thorpe won 6 in 2 Olympics.

I'm kinda interested where you heard that they were going head to head for most medals... oh well.

i remember they were showing the standing between the two. Maybe it was overall career medals.....

That was the greatest swimming relay I've ever seen. On the start of the final 50 meters, I said to myself "****, the french will actually have something to brag about"...Lezak did a great job.

Phelps IS crazy. That guy is a machine in the water. Its incredible alone that he eats 10,000 calories a day. Yes, 10k calories.

Believe it of not, most extreme world class athletes eat that much, when i was training for some marathon running i would eat around 4k a day but when i wasnt training i would eat about 1-1.5k a day. I was following a training schedule simulator to what some Olympic athletes do.
I had a friend that ate 9k a day but he was training 3x a day and running around 20 miles plus 50 miles on a bike and a mile swim. It was the most insane thing i ever watched ( or tried to watch because i just couldn't keep pace). His pace was something like 6 minute miles and he could do it all while eating. These guys are just freaks of nature.
