Looks like the AMD graphic division is doing great lately, they also have some awesome chipsets.
Now it's time for the CPU division to get some improvements in order to get the AMD out of the red.
Anyway I believe they will do financially much better in the Q3 and Q4 than in the previous financial reports.
Maybe time to buy some AMD stock but I will wait for 'AthlonXP1800' to buy first.:)
ATI M98: The Fastest Mobile Graphics Processor in the Making
PCPop has access to an upcoming mobile (notebook) graphics processor (mGPU) from ATI, codenamed the M98. This graphics board makes use of the RV770 core and will be accompanied by 512 MB of GDDR3 memory, up to 1 GB in some models. It could be branded under the Radeon HD 4000 series. It can be dubbed the fastest till date if it's pitted against NVIDIA's current high performance mGPU, the GeForce 9800M GTX which makes use of the G92 GPU with a similar configuration to that of the desktop 8800 GT / 9800 GT cards (112 shader units). It then becomes comparable to GeForce 8800 GT versus Radeon HD4850 where the latter obtains 15% to 20% performance gains.

Wait and see what Intel reveal about Core i7 CPU on 11 or 12 August and CEO Dirk said that AMD have a very long way to go to get out of red, dont expect CPU division to have a quick miracle this year.
AMD been said that they are aiming to grab 40% of the desktop marketshare in Q3 with new HD 4800 series graphics but financial analysts are very skeptical about 40%, it seemly very unlikely. The latest data from Jon Peddie Research (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20080808090756_Market_of_Graphics_Adapters_Flat_as _Intel_Grabs_Highest_Market_Share_in_Years.html) revealed ATI had 19% of the desktop marketshare in Q1 2008 with 11,837,000 graphics card shipped but however their marketshare for Q2 2008 fell to 18.30% with 10,833,600 cards shipped so about a million cards less for no reason. With the latest data, if AMD aiming 40% then they will need to ship more than 20 million cards but it seem impossible for AMD to achieve it.
Financial analysts believe AMD will have negative outlook in Q3 and Q4, Fitch Ratings (http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/apwire/8f80d5226bc960d9a73b51fdd7b54fa1.htm) on Friday placed AMD at B- default rating, believes that the economic environment will disproportionately affect AMD, given its greater exposure to the consumer market than Intel.

The first time since I'm member on this forum your FAMOUS analysis about AMD didn't include death sentence.
Can I take it as buy AMD stock recommendation from you.? Oh no it looks like your buy recommendation came to late, maybe I missed the bottom line. AMD shares (http://www.thestreet.com/quote/AMD.html?omorig=header).
By the way I hope you know in the last few months NVIDIA is doing by far worse on the stock market . NVIDIA shares (http://www.thestreet.com/quote/NVDA.html?omorig=header).
Lets blame theInq Charlie for that. :)
Now on the more serious site. With the US economy going down the drain, AMD aiming to grab 40% of the discreet GPU market might be just a dream. Even with the bad economy I believe the AMD financial report for Q3 and Q4 2008 is going to be much better than in the previous financial reports.
It wont get AMD out off the red but it should take the AMD graphic division out of the red.

They better get Powerplay working this time :p
slaWter are you just kidding?
I believe the Power Play was fixed in Catalyst 8.3 drivers. I also don't have any problem with Power Play. Read the cvearl post about Facts and Fictions explored. (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=117372)
By the way NVIDIA drivers also used to have some problems with Power Play.

Didn't even newer AMD slides have footnotes about Powerplay features being disabled or not yet implemented? Anyway, this is the most important feature for mobile GPUs, it has to be fully functional at release.
Cool! i'd get a RV770 based mGPU laptop if it is to be available soon.

I only remember such footnotes on the HD 4870 x2 previews and the reason was the bios was not finalized.
Just one example the [H]ard preview (http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTUzMSw5LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==).
The idle temperature numbers for R700/4870x2 are "NA" due to the preview cards that we had access to did not have the proper BIOS installed that implemented idle power optimizations. We would guess that that the R700 system would likely idle at around 220w full system power given the test system above.
If you look at the "Power Draw" chart, on the other ATI cards the Power Play worked just fine.
I agree if the Power Play didn't work at mobile GPUs it would make the card useless.
