View Full Version : 177.xx and CoH: Opposing Fronts

I am getting a really wierd and annoying issue with any of the driver releases after 175.xx and this game, including the new 177.83. If I keep the camera still the framerate is high and the game is completely smooth. As soon as i start to scroll the framerate will drop from anywhere above 100 right down to the low 30's and fluctuate causing the game to appear extremely choppy. If i stop moving the camera the framerate returns to normal. The problem can vary drastically depending on the map too. Lyon is by far the worst to highlight the problem. Right from the start its a stuttering mess.

Another observation is that despite these issues if i run the performance test ingame I get 120fps average which is actually 4fps higher than 175.xx drivers which work properly.

Does anyone else experience anything similar? I am playing the Steam version of the game if that helps.

Graphics: Geforce 8800GTS 512MB
Sound: X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
Mainboard: Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe
OS: Vista 64 Ultimate

I have the same issue. I have a 2x 280 GTXs in SLi. I did not have this problem with my old 8800 GTX, I'm surprised that both of you have 8800s and have this problem. The problem for me seems to be on large maps like Montargis. The framerate is absolutely horrendous, with my 280 GTX SLi setup, way worse than with my single 8800 GTX.

You know what now that I think about it, it may not have been the 280 GTXs as much as it was the drivers. When I upgraded I think I was on the 176.XX drivers with my 8800 but with the 280 I was forced to update my drivers. I subsequently moved my 8800 to a XP box and it did not have the issue in XP with my 8800. I have also used my 280 GTX in XP and it also does not have the issue there as well.

So it looks like it is an issue with the 177.XX Vista drivers. 177.XX in XP is fine.

On my Vista machine it actually stutters worse in DX9 mode than DX10. Although it stutters a bit in DX10 as well not nearly as bad as DX9 with my 280s in Vista. And I did not get the stutter with my 8800 GTX in DX9 mode under Vista but I'm not sure if I ever used the 177.XX drivers with my 8800 in Vista 176.XX may have been the last.

It has nothing to do with DX10 as the stutter is even worse when scrolling in DX9.
