Disregarding price, which car out of this bunch do you think is best?

By the way, I left the BMW M5 out of this for a reason. I left it out because BMW M5 does not come in automatic transmission. You must by like "What? Who cares! You need manual not automatic!" Yeah, but my father has been driving automatics for the past 12 years, and I don't think he wants to go back to manual.

so... if he didn't want to go back to automatics, wouldn't he want a manual trans?:rofl

he could always go the flinstone route init ?

/me always loved the pitter patter of feet on tarmac...

but seriously... the AMG series is probably the best of the lot... for sedans that is...

unless you plop in the skyline series from nissan and their 4d version... :D

RS6 all the way.

Bi-Turbo V8 with Quattro. Can't get the E55 with 4matic anymore.

On a more personal note, I never have been much of a fan of Mercedes-Benz styling.

agreed... but once I sit in the drivers seat thats a different story...

I woulda chosen the m5 if given a chance though... I have driven the m3.. and DANG its fast... :D

a true joy to ride... hence the m5 would be just as much fun.. with a v8... even with a 4d styling :)

Yeah, and ask him how many launches you get with it before the car throws a CEL, and you take it back to BMW to have your warranty voided

The Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG has amazing acceleration. It accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds! I think that is faster than the Audi RS 6 and the BMW M5.

RS6 will do it in 4.8. And what does that mean?

Given 4 runs with 2 drivers switching seats after every run, you'd be most likely end up with a tie.

It would take a driver like Micheal Schumacher to squeeze the juice out of both cars.

So its just a matter of taste. Do you like to smoke 2 wheels, or roast all 4? Naturally aspirated or force-fed?

In any case, the S-type R has no buisness peaking it's head into this class. The XJR would be a much more fitting competitor.

I read a review of the Jaguar S-Type R in a car magazine and it put up well against the BMW M5.

By the way, have you guys seen the new BMW 5 Series?

Click the following link and look under "Specials."

yah the new 5 series takes design cues from the 7 series... which IMO is a beaut car... interior is a bit ridiculously overdone in terms of electronics... takes about a day to learn the nuances of the system...

the s-type R is also a brilliant car :) looks sharp and if it drives any better than my m8's regular s-type 4.0 its gotta ROCK :D

the whole 0-60mph or 0=100 kph is a bit misleading since it is highly dependent on the driver as intercede said...

personally I am all for good driving ie keeping the revs up around 3-4k rpm when shifting if I am driving a sporty car with most of its torque available in that range...

I certainly want a go with the new WRX-sti from subaru... a straight 4 with 300/300 hp/lb ft. of torque... that should be quite an experience :D and the max torque is @ around 4.5k rpm... so easily available power... :D

PLUS.. its AWD... looks a bit nutty with the HUGE fin... but whatever... :D

And another question! :p

I know the new BMW 5 Series is not available just yet, but would you get the Mercedes-Benz E500 or the new BMW 545i?

Secondly, will there be a new BMW M5 with the new BMW 5 Series shape/look?

The M5 is almost done. Should be here later this year. V10 power this time around. And unfortunatly the new M5 will look like the new 5 series.

DIE CHRIS BANGLE DIE!!!!!!!! :rw:

Kain...sit in a Jaguar S-Type R and you'll realize why it doesn't deserve to be considered with the 5 series. It looks and feels like a Ford Taurus.

Thanks.

Do you know where I can find pictures or information on the new BMW M5?

review of car @ edmunds car review site (http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadtests/firstdrive/100114/article.html?tid=edmunds.h..reviews..3.*)

its the first drive...

469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque... for a sedan ?

thats RIDICULOUS and implies that AMG along with bmw's M division happen to be one of the top specialist divisions out there...

wow...

It's a "Flat" four, otherwise known as a "Boxer" four. Same engine layout that Porsche uses in the 911 and the 986 (Boxster). Good party trivia there.

And my recomendation is that, unless someone has tons of money to blow on a car that shouldn't cost that much, stick with the WRX. The STi is nice, but it's not BMW 325Ci or Mercedes-Benz C230 nice. Granted the car is quick, but there is quite a bit of turbo lag, and the motor is useless below 3,000 RPM's. The C230 Kompressor, on the other hand.........very choice.

the wrx yes... the sti version.. no...

I have driven a european version sti car... pushing 280 odd horses and I can tell you it is FAR superior to a WRX...

the bmw and merz cars are more luxury oriented... the sti is more rally style driving oriented... and it is AWD... :)

the turbo lag problem may persist with the us sti car... but till I drive it I will not know...

the WRX itself was not such a beaut IMO... the sti shoulda been out a lot sooner...

plus the way the engine is supposedly done up now... the low end torque should be prety decent...

but again... till I go for a spin no way to tell :D
