I ordered my xps 1530 and it arrived today. when i ordered it it says "home premium 32/64". so logiclaly you think they would realize, "hey this kid put in 4 gigs of ram, we should install a 64-bit OS instead of 32" no.
so my question is, should i reformat and put on 64 bit? I've never used a computer with only 4 gigs so i don't really know if i'm getting robbed of too much. the card is an 8600 which has i think 256 maybe 512 not sure.
i wanted to go ahead and format it but i figured i'd ask to save the trouble if it wasn't needed.

Yeah, go ahead and put 64bit on it. Might as well make use off all of the RAM and GPU memory. Plus it'll be a little faster.

lol alright thanks. that's what my initial thought was. i mean with 8 gigs it's a no brainer but was a little curious about 4.

alright so i installed vista 64 and everything worked. but there's some problems, dell doesn't have alot of drivers for x64 bit. Mainly the fingerprint reader and the webcam. i downloaded some drivers off of UPEK's website (2.11 to be exact) and it installed without a hitch, but i still can't use it. I need an application off of dell's website called UPEK - Application so i can get the little menu with the options and actually use it. What'd you guys use/find? Or are you not currently using these features?

dell (well pretty much every OEM computer company) is quite pathetic when it comes to 64bit. is like they are afraid of it.
if you need any other component let me know

I'd say no because Vista 64 uses a lot more RAM than 32 bit. 32 uses like 800 to 1 GB and 64 uses 1.4 GB to 1.8 for me (after Windows loads). I don't think you'll run out of memory with 4 GB, but I'd just recommend more for it. Also, turn off the paging file.
