View Full Version : Lebron vs. Kobe is getting laughable now

Lebron James is so far and away a better basketball player now. Anytime Lebron James is on a good basketball team, he shines like a star. Kobe, he's always a mixed bag no matter what situation he is in.
Take the All Stars for example. Hell, take this years Olympics for example. Lebron James is out rebounding, passing, scoring, and defending better than Kobe. What more proof do you need?
Lebron James is just an all around better player than Kobe Bryant. Kobe has the edge on jumper and a slight edge on defense. Why slight? Have you seen Lebron James lately? Over these past few months he has come leaps and bounds better at defending. I'll still say that Kobe puts more pressure on the defense and is over all "better", but its not by much. Lebron James is a MUCH better passer, MUCH better at post up, MUCH better scorer(who cares how he gets it done), MUCH better blocker, and a MUCH MUCH better leader. He's been THE leader of the USA team. Kobe probably still has more basketball knowledge, but I think Lebron is more likely to actually put it to use by either doing it himself, or sharing with others.
Before I get alot of "championship ring" comments back. Kobe got those rings because of Shaq. Kobe wasn't nearly as dominate back then. Kobe has probably the second best team in the entire league and he blew a championship. Even without Kobe, the Lakers can still take half the teams in the NBA. Kobe Bryant and his INCREDIBLE Laker squad went 6 games and LOST to the Celtics. On the flipside Lebron James has arguably the worst team in the entire NBA. Without Lebron, I would be VERY surprised to see the Cavs winning more than 10 games for an ENTIRE SEASON. Lebron James single handedly took the Cavs to SEVEN games with the Celtics. If he would have had an ounce of help he would have taken the Cavs to the Finals again. They would have lost to the Lakers, as they are an overall better team, but still. You can't deny how much Lebron James is accomplishing on his own. You'd be a fool if you don't think that if Lebron James replaced Kobe on the Lakers that they wouldn't be the most dominate team in the league.
Two years ago. Kobe was the best in the world. Thats not the case anymore. There is plenty of evidence to back it up. I'm sure I will get plenty of "NUHHHH UHHHHHH!!" replies. Or "you are stupid" replies. I would love to see someone actually post an intelligent reply that supports Kobe Bryant is an overall better player in the present tense.

I haven't seen any of the Olympics games, so I find it very hard to imagine him all of a sudden better than Kobe.

i've seen all the games. Kobe has been VERY off. In all honesty, he's so off he probably doesn't deserve to be starting. Just my opinion.
But I can merely discount the Olympic games as just a small phase that kobe is going through. Even ignoring the Olympic games(that Lebron is absolutely dominating in over Kobe) I think over the past year Lebron's game has increased tremendously.
Mark my words. Before the end of next season, it will start to become accepted that Lebron is the better player. To seal the deal I believe within the next two years Kobe Bryant himself will publicly say it.(i say two years, because I know its going to take alot for Kobe to accept the fact he's been passed)

No way is LeBron a better passer. Kobe averaged like 6 assists a game, and would probably be up around Nash with 10 or 11 per game if it wasn't for the fact that Kobe has to take most of the shots for the Lakers.
Defense, I'd say they're about the same, LrBron has better post up moves due to strength, but Kobe has WAY WAY more finesse under the paint. Oh and Kobe's jump shot absolutely destroys Lebron's. Although, I'd say Kobe's jump shot is on par with Jordan's so that's not really a bash on LeBron.
Let's see LrBron score 80+ points a game before you call him a better scorer. LeBron's team can't even manage an 80+ game, much less an individual player.

The lakers would be a joke without Kobe. They wouldn't even make the playoffs. And the celtics are an incredibly inconsistent team. If they would have played against the lakers like they played against the cavs, it would have been a 4 game laker sweep.
And to those who say Kobe is nothing without shaq... Jordan never won a ring without pipen.

Kobe averaged 5 assists a game with a VERY good team. Lebron is averages 7 assists a game, with a TERRIBLE team. If Lebron was on the Lakers, I could easily see him a 9 assist a game player. We all know how well Kobe is with assists when he has a bad team(aka Lakers two years ago). How much assists did Kobe have then? Lebron is leaps and bounds a better passer, he just has few finishers. He's one of the best passers in the league.

I agree on everything except for Kobe's jump shot being on par with Jordan. Definitely don't believe that.

Exactly what I expected. This happened years ago. I never said that at Kobe's peak he was worse than Lebron's is now. Kobe had his peak two years ago. Since then his personal skills have started going down ever so slightly. Lebron's have just kept increasing.
The lakers would be a joke without Kobe. They wouldn't even make the playoffs. And the celtics are an incredibly inconsistent team. If they would have played against the lakers like they played against the cavs, it would have been a 4 game laker sweep.
While I agree that the Lakers might not make the playoffs without Kobe, they would still be a very competitive team. Definitely capable of a 45 win season. The Cavs without Lebron would have a 5 win season.
And to those who say Kobe is nothing without shaq... Jordan never won a ring without pipen.
I never said Kobe is nothing without Shaq. I was just proving a point that championship rings mean dip ****. TEAMS win championship rings, not players. Jordan would have NEVER won a championship with a team like the present tense Cavaliers.
Someone answer these.
If Kobe and Lebron traded teams. Do you you REALLY think that Lebron couldn't carry the Lakers further? Also, do you REALLY think that Kobe could do for the Cavs as much as Lebron did for them?
On the USA basketball team. If Lebron was injured how severely do you think it would hurt the team by him not playing. If Kobe was injured, how severely do you think it would hurt the team by him not playing?
If you were handed the Bucks. You got to keep the exact squad of the Bucks(which is pretty bad). You had a choice. Lebron or Kobe. Which one? Whoo do you think would be more capable of carrying the team to WIN an NBA championship?

I think LeBron has more potential than Kobe. LeBron is defiantly more athletic, and in five years when he develops Kobe's finesse, he will be ridiculous. So considering the future, I'd pick LeBron, but as for right now who I'd rather have on my team? Defiantly Kobe.

i think comparing players individually (especially those who are close skill-wise), doesnt really have a point.
A "game" ( 99% of the time, is with 4 players, + 1 "leader/star"). How the leader uses/doesnt use his support should also count.
What i mean is, i think it would be very very interesting what would happen if they switched teams. I dont think either would do any better, infact i think both teams would do worse.

one is a guard and one is a forward. There isn't any comparison. Shut up, no one cares.

Noone cares about uDawg
I'm just saying....
Anyway. Kobe is a shooting guard. Lebron is a Small forward. They are pretty much as close as can be in regards to their actual jobs. In all honesty, Lebron acts more like a guard than Kobe.

So much for James lacking a "jumper"
http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/summer08/basketball/men/boxscore?gameId=788
Not only does he outscore, out rebound, out steal, out defend Kobe Bryant. He also had zero turnovers(compared to Bryant's 2), played less minutes, AND he went 4 for 5 from the 3 point line.
Lebron > Kobe
