I get random BSODs where the screen with flash 4 times then BSOD with the driver name. It happens whether the card is overclocked or not. I've noticed it mostly when I have virtual machines running (which I do often). I've tried every driver from the 8.6 hotfix to the 8.8 betas and they all do it.
This blows. I want my GTX 280 back.

which virtual machine? virtual PC from Ms? or VMWARE?
Umm...why did you ditch the 280 for the 4870 anyways?

It was cheaper and I didn't need all the power of the GTX 280.
All my temps are fine. I have a fan profile for 30% manual normally then if i do something grapghics intensive i switch to 35%.
I use VMWare.

did you get the BSOD with 280?
PSU should be fine it it ran ok with 280. so the only thing you can do is make sure you got latest ati drivers (wait for next version) and check if there are any updates to VMWARE

No BSODs with 4870s, but I didn't have any virtual machines, as Nekro says maybe there are issues with ATI drivers and that software

I never got a BSOD with the GTX 280, so it's not the PSU.

It's possible for the driver and VMWARE to conflict I guess.
Have you called ATI to ask them?
Asked about this over at Rage?
